Close to where his legendary home run cleared Fenway Park's left-field wall a quarter-century ago, Bucky Dent was tormenting the Red Sox faithful all over again.

"Were you bitter?" the former New York Yankee shortstop asked one fan in a Sox cap, while flashing his diamond-studded World Series ring. "Do you still hate me?" he inquired of another, hopefully.

What a wonderful moment that was for my childhood (I was 8 at the time). Being a huge Yankee fan with an overbite, my nickname used to be "Buck", in homage to "He who continued the Curse of the Bambino".

Agreed Buck Dent had a great moment and was as popular with the ladies as Derek Jeter is today.

No they are too busy talking about Yaz's home run. It really is sad. For a lot of guys in Boston, that was the greatest moment of their life. It happened 30 years ago, and Boston lost the Series anyway.

Just like they're hung up on Fisk's homer against the Reds in . . . 1975? They always omit that they lost that series too. Ahhhhhhhhh. I appreciate now the benefits of growing up a Yankees fan. Much healthier on the mind.

Oops, I meant Fisk, but that illustrates my point. I'm in my thirties, and I am a huge baseball fan. The fact that I confused Fiske with Yaz illustrates how irrelevant that homer was everywhere outside of Boston.

Yea, what is up with that? ESPN always shows his stupid homerun pushing the ball fair with his body language. You would think it would lose its importance after the Reds dispatched them the next game. Oh well. The Reds are far more storied than the Red Sox with success.

You got that right. So are the A's, the Cardinals, the Tigers, the Dodgers, the Giants, the Orioles, the Twins, the White Sox, the Pirates, the Indians, and the Braves. But, Peter Gammons is a huge Red Sox fan, so they get disproportionate coverage. Maybe if the Braves moved back to Boston...
