LIKE the weather in Sacramento, the attempt to recall Gov. Gray Davis is getting hot.

And the governor is starting to sweat.

With the unveiling of ``Taxpayers Against the Recall,'' the initially quixotic attempt to unseat Davis achieved its first goal: It forced the governor to confront it.

I welcome the Governor's activation of a phony front group to stop us. He knows he doesn't have much time left in office. Heck he can raise all the money he wants and it won't help him this time around. Gray Davis is good as gone and you can take that to the bank.

Suppose everything goes well and Davis gets recalled, and a Republican gets elected. What can that Republican do with a massive budget deficit and a crazy legislature? Not to mention an even crazier court system. Californians elected Davis. Let them have him...

A conservative GOP governor can stop the nuttier liberal legislation. We don't need a one party state here headed towards the total Sovietization of the West Coast.

So nice of you to stick up for those who opposed him.

The governor weilds a line-item veto pen. It means a lot.

I agree with Koblenz, there's no point in us sending a GOP RINO to replace Davis, since the RINO will just more or less continue the Welfare State policies there.

But if we elect a real hardcore Fiscal Conservative like Tom McClintock, it still won't do any good because he'll never get any serious spending cuts through the RAT Legislature.

I'm in the camp that says, let Davis stay, NO ONE no matter how fiscally conservative can save the state UNLESS that Republican finds a way to force spending cuts without getting the Legislature to approve (Maybe declaring California Bankrupt would be a way to force spending cuts???)...

A conservative GOP governor can't force the Democrats to enact real budget cuts. But he can use the item line veto to cut spending where the Democrats refuse to and he can also prevent them from from continuing to pass massive new tax hikes and to institute new government programs. I know this is simply holding the line but its a start and if nothing is done California is headed for Third World status. At least we have the chance to turn things around.

Its ok to send a RINO to the governor's mansion in Calif .... We can't keep spotting the democrats California's 52 electoral votes and expect to hold the White House. If it takes a RINO at the helm in Calif, so beit.

"I know this is simply holding the line but its a start and if nothing is done California is headed for Third World status."

I'm not opposed to re-calling Davis, but keep in mind, getting rid of Davis isn't going to get rid of the RAT Ubber Communists that run the State Legislature, and if you don't have the legislature, then it's going to be nearly impossible to get the unprecedented level of spending cuts neccesary to keep California afloat.

What if the State files for Bankruptcy??? Is that within the Governor's powers, or does that still require approval from the Legislature?

Thanks for reminding those who don't know about the line item veto. Personally, I would love to see a candidate propose eliminate the state income tax altogether. I mean if TX and FL can operate without a state income tax why can't CA. Those of us who live and work in CA cannot afford to wait 3 years for another election. McClintok, who I hope runs for governor on the recall, has already come up with a plan to balance the budget without raising taxes. DUMP DAVIS in '03 and KNOCKOUT BOXER IN '04.

We can't get rid of the Democrats til at least 2010 thanks to their gerrymander but we can keep them in check til the end of the decade. I don't know about us going bankrupt over here but I don't see President Bush intervening unless its to help out a friendly governor.

"If it takes a RINO at the helm in Calif, so beit."

But a RINO is just going to raise taxes through the roof, which won't do any good long-term because the rich will just leave the state, and the only people left in California will be the Welfare people, government workers, and illegal Mexicans.

Only a hardcore Fiscal Conservative like Tom McClintock can save the state, and even then it's not a sure bet because of the RAT legislature.

I couldn't agree with you more. The income tax is a Progressive legacy. Getting rid of it would make us much more competitive with neighboring Nevada. Not to mention all the other things that need to be done to put to paid the Democrats dream of creating a Sweden On The Pacific here.

No need to file BK. McClintok has already proposed cutting the budget that was in place when the Dimwit took office in '98 by ten percent right off the top and within two years it will be balanced. There is no problem with revenues in fact the revenues were higher in '98 & '99 then the previous years. It was that the Dimwit Davis and the legislature spent even more than the state was bringing in. LINE ITEM VETO til the cows come home!

I think bankruptcy is the only way for a true Conservative Republican to save the state, because you know the RAT legislature doesn't care how big the Deficit is, and the only solution they will accept is to raise taxes through the roof.

Of course. Mention budget cuts to a Democrat and he thinks you're feeding him arsenic.

That's the great thing about the internet and talk radio, people are much more aware of the hankypanky that is going on in Sacramento and DC! When we recall the Dimwit I believe it will be a first in American history and should be a wakeup call for anyone in public office. You can fool some of the people some of the time but you can't fool all of the people all of the time! We DUMP DAVIS then set our sights on KNOCKING OUT BOXER!

LINE ITEM VETO til the cows come home!

Is there anything the Rat Legislature can do to counter the Line Item Veto? Because if there is ANYTHING they can do to stop spending cuts I assure the Democrats will do it.
