Hollywierd Cheap Shot in FX special "44 Minutes"
Vanity ^ | BenLurkin

Sorry for the vanity but if anyone has been watching the FX cable channel you may have seen the cheap shot which Hollywierd couln't resist taking at gun ownership. The special was a re-encactment of the North Hollywood shoot out a few years ago.

It was a fine moment for our couraeguos LAPD, but the producers turned the show into an anti-gun propaganda piece.

In particular was the moment when LAPD went to B & B Gun Sales in the valley to pick up rifles for use against the bank robbers. This actually happened. I have been to the B & B store in question (now closed). It was a great place and the owners were happy to help LADP by lending the use of their inventory in order to stop the bad guys.

Rather than recognize the civic service provided by the store, the producers of this rank crappy "special" chose to insert a line from a fictional police offer "I can't believe they let people buy these kind of guns".

Sickening. I am really P.O.d

The media made it look like the robbers were armed with "assault rifles" that one can buy from a sporting goods store. I had to explain to my coworkers that the robbers had illegal fully auto AK-47 rifles that were sold in the criminal black market. The two robbers were Russian immigrants with a long criminal record and had connections in organized crime. They used their connections to buy Kevlar helmets, body armor and full automatic weapons. Weapons law abiding citizens can never access.

Sounds like business as usual, that's why I didn't watch it.

I thought the same thing when I watched that scene. I do remember the gun shop owner saying "how are you going to pay for all this?" and the cop replied "send a bill to the Mayor"

If you're in Oregon or Nevada, or a few other states, and you have the dough to splash out for a 30-year-old $3,500 machine gun, and you pay your $200 transfer tax and wait six months, you can have a machine gun if you like.

Check out http://www.frontsight.com/ - the Front Sight Resort in Nevada - they offer free machine gun training course, in order to get you hooked on the rest of the classes and thinking about buying a plot of land there.

"send a bill to the Mayor"

LOL, perfect! I hadn't heard that but it would have made better cinema.

Maybe this makes my point. Rather than use a great line from reality, these creeps had to put in a schlocky proganda line.

I believe the armor was fully legal.

First there was the Michael Mann TV movie, then there was the shootout, then there was the movie Heat (which I worked on), then there was the follow up TV movie. Art imitating life ad nauseum. Blah, blah, blah.

Wearing body armor becomes illegal if you're a convicted felon or if you use it during the comission of a crime.

Lib's made the gun store owner look greedy...FX usually has less biased original content.

Maybe B&B should have had the cops wait 5 days instead. dont want to break any laws.

FX is pretty PC frequently on other topics as well...best to avoid.

Sort of like getting your morning news from Yahoo's front page if you know what I mean.

I saw it Sunday night and had the same reaction. I didn't see it coming so it really stood out when it happened. My opinion of the movie did a reverse at that point; the way it transpired made it seem like the entire point of the movie.

Back then it was 15 days, and they cut it down to 10 days a few years back.

It's sad that they had to turn something so positive (relatively speaking) into something so PC. Will we never be fully rid of that PC garbage.
