Who can start a Michael Mann Ping List!

Michael's not in the news very much, and he doesn't have anything lined up to direct right now. He might have gotten dispondent after the failure of Ali (gorgeous, awful movie), followed by Robbery Homicide Division's quick hook. I was hoping he'd shop RHD to HBO, try to re-cast it after Sizemore's arrest... but I haven't heard anything.

Mann's a producer on Scorsese's Howard Hughes film (The Aviator, starring Leo DiCaprio), but that's about all he's working on right now.

I liked last of the Mohicans, but I would have taken a few minutes to the sex scene. They did do a good job of combining characters, and cut that foolishness about diverting the river to see a footprint.

I spoke too soon. Mann is reportedly close to getting Tom Cruise and Adam Sandler to star in a film called Collateral, which he will direct. The movie's about a contract killer (Cruise) who hijacks a taxi (driven by Sandler) to take him to his target.

Just read this tonight.

I noticed that also Ben and mentioned it to my wife as we wathced. I figured it was the bone to throw to the liberals so they producers and actors, et al wouldn't get tarnished making a sympathetic cop movie. They sure tried to portray some of the personal lives of the cops involved in a negative light. And we don't know how much that was "based" on true stories.

Even at the end of the movie it said the cops got M-16's which are far more powerful than what they got legally in the gun store. Mixed message?

I think it shows that the LAPD was lax in it's ability to handle every possible situation. And the fact it took them so long to even think of getting legal weapons from a gun store (I said to my wife, "hey, don't they have to pass a background check first"?) shows the department was clueless. Had to be because of liberal bureaucratic BS.

Yes, I caught that scene too and commented to my wife that the hollywierdos just cannot resist displaying their anti-gun bias.

Yeah but they sure do make allot of movies about crime and guns and glamerise the whole thing....dont they now...

#28...Last of the Mohicans...was quite excellent!!

#2....I noticed the scene as well, when the police were desperate enough to buy the guns ....and the comment made!

It really stood out!

Fee, your comments help flesh out the story more fully.....

..I noticed the accent of the criminals, but missed the first 10 minutes of the movie, and didn't know if that gave info about why they were doing this or who they were.

Thanks!

MMann rules! Thanks for some of the inside track. He did "The Keep" which I saw when it came out, was idiotic but had Scott Glenn to try and redeem it. Mann/Glenn you think I'm onto something? Glenn was great (om mane pedme hum) in "Vertical Limit" my favorite recent B movie.

Will never happen. Dumb premise. Tom Cruise would ruin a Mann movie. Russel Crowe is as high as it goes.

Personaly I would have jumped behind the wheel of the armored car and made road pizza out of those two vor

At least two SWAT team snipers with their rifles were on the scene, but were refused permission to fire. The stories given as to why ranged from fear that if mortrally wounded, either surviving perpetrator might try to finish off one of the exposed wounded cops to the liklihood that the third gunman [maybe a 4th] was a fellow LAPD officer known to the supervisors, and with the armour on, they couldn't tell which was which.

Weapons law abiding citizens can never access.

Not to quibble, but they can.

My bigger point was that citizens SHOULD be able to buy and own these weapons without artificial restrictions, licenses, or tax stamps.

Apparently, it's pretty close to happening. If Mann and Cruise decide they want to work with each other, nobody's going to stand in the way, no matter how weak the log line sounds at first blush.

I'm happy to see Mann's persuing a crime film, that's where he belongs. That's the world he knew in Chicago, that's who he's surrounded himself with in life (cops and thieves), that's just what he does best.

I'm really hoping he wrote the script.

Wrong again..... "

I don't see why. This was not made mention in a political manner by a person of authority such as was clearly the case in the comments of the peace officer in the gun store.

would you buy a used car from this guy?
