WASHINGTON - Sen. Edward M. Kennedy snubbed President Bush yesterday, refusing to attend a Rose Garden speech on the ``No Child Left Behind Act.''
Kennedy and Rep. George Miller (D-Calif.), the top Democrats on the Senate and House education committees, boycotted the event, angered by inadequate funding for the measure they worked with Bush to enact last year.
``They simply won't cough up the resources to make school reform work,'' Kennedy said.
The act redefines the federal role in K-12 education and aims to increase school accountability and parent involvement.
``The era of low expectations and low standards is ending; a time of great hopes and proven results is arriving,'' Bush said.
The absence of Kennedy (D-Mass.) and Miller, the lead Democratic sponsors of the measure, was particularly noticeable when Bush thanked seven Republican members of Congress in the audience, but no Democrats.
Kennedy and Miller stood with Bush when he signed the bill into law last year. They have since criticized Bush for requesting less money than originally called for.
The president said his budget provides enough education funding and that he has increased funding for education nearly $11 billion since taking office. But he added, ``Pouring money into systems that do not teach and refuse to change will not help our children.''
Miller countered Bush was taking credit for the $11 billion while actually opposing that large a boost, which was insisted on by congressional Democrats and moderate Republicans.
Kennedy said Bush had ``turned his back'' on funding the measure, adding that his current budget cuts it by $700 million, including reductions to after-school programs and teacher training.

``They simply won't cough up the resources to make school reform work,'' Kennedy said. Apparently, The Drunk from Hyannis thinks that the over $1 trillion already poured down the public school sewer was insufficient...

People who keep pushing for more and more of our money into the failed (NOT failing) public schools don't give a rats a$$ about "the children." The "...for the children" scam seems to keep suckering more soccer moms along with the inner city non tax payers into what has become the world's most expensive (and poorly run) daycare program.

So Kennedy and Miller and the rest of the Demonrats didn't expect any blowback from their continued assault on W's character?
It really sucks when a 'dumb old shrub' steals your issue and puts in in his platform, leaving you nothing but a boilermaker in a dirty bar.

So Teddy didn't even have the decency to give Bush a reach-around?
Bush would do well to remember that before bending over next time.

...Sen. Edward M. Kennedy snubbed President Bush yesterday... Considering someone's absence from an event as a snub presupposes the absentee has some value higher than pond scum.

Teddy's busy at work on his next initiative:

Kennedy suffers from a limited vocabulary. He only knows one word, a word he uses in connection to his drinking. It's the same word he uses for how much of the taxpayer dollar he wants to spend.
The word is "MORE"

The era of low expectations and low standards is ending; a time of great hopes and proven results is arriving,'' Bush said. What a contrast with:
Teachers from Philippines arrive in Boston to teach math and science ***At first it seemed as though the Philippine teachers wouldn't make it. Bureaucratic problems with obtaining visas for the teachers delayed their arrivalfor several weeks. US Representative Michael Capuano and Senator Edward M. Kennedy, both Massachusetts Democrats, worked with the Immigration and Naturalization Service to speed up the process. ''Their arrival means that a significant number of students will be able to get the good education they need and deserve,'' Kennedy said in a statement welcoming the teachers. ***

Yes. When are the Republicans ever going to learn that no matter how much you give in to the Democrats so they will like you it just doesn't happen. They knife you in the back instead and expect you to smile all the while. Which the Republicans do, I might add.

Hopefully, Tubby Kennedy will get drunk and drive across a bridge.
