The Assembly revised the scale of assessments in 2002. As part of that agreement, the regular budget maximum was reduced from 25 to 22 percent — the rate at which the U.S. is assessed for the regular budget.

The U.S. is the only member that pays this rate; all other members’ assessment rates are lower. For example, Japan, Italy and Canada contributed, respectively, 19.6 percent, 5.1 percent and 2.6 percent to the regular U.N. budget for 2001, according to the State Department.

President Bush now has to decide whether to request the interest-free loan in the fiscal budget for 2005. And then Congress has to decide for the American people whether to fortify the U.N. or to let it whither on the vine.

I say whither on the vine.

Tell 'em to get the fluck out of the US and go build something in France or some other socialist paradise.

They can sell their property on the East River for an enormous chunk of change, and rent a tower at Ground Zero.

There was the Australian denouncement of the UN in the news today, followed by Rumsfeld trail balloon re: building our own US peacekeepers. Could it be that we are distancing ourselves from the UN?

We can only hope. Meanwhile, they want us to go to Africa. Sorry, we're busy. Send some of the panty-waist cheese eaters.

and raise security fences?

So they want our money even as they are strengthening their security. Against whom? Us?

They want to be able fight us when we are ready to kick them out.

Don't you know we're just a big bank for them.

Those days are over, I hope.

We should pay according to our voting power. While we're at it, we should charge them rent.

I have to agree. Paris is over-supplied with good wine and stinky cheese right now. Delagates to the UN are known to prefer good restaurants and recognize and appreciate arrogance when they see it. I frankly can't think of a better place.

The best thing we could do is pass a rule that the UN HQ be in the country that currently holds the presidency (which can't be the US). Let's get all of those 'crats and send them to Ghana!

Let it rot. Let it moulder; let it collapse. If it catches fire, let it burn.

Critics want the U.N. to pay for the renovation itself.

Great idea!

Oh wait, where does the UN get most of their money from in the first place?

No, the "organization to prop up petty dictators" has got to end. It's a humanitarian nightmare. Let it go, let it go, let it go.

I say multiply the number of JDAMS it takes to "renovate" the place by the cost of the ordnance, and the figure is a lot lower. Boy, those UN folks sure like to waste money...
