Code of `honor' puts many women at risk Slayings by kin often unreported (Religion of Peace)

DIYARBAKIR, Turkey -- Arif has a decision to make. Should his wife live or die?

The reason for this quandary, whether to kill for honor, is starkly simple. Yet it reaches deep into the cultural complexities of life in rural villages in southeastern Turkey and into how men and women define their roles.

So-called honor killings occur around the world, although they are most frequent in countries with large Muslim populations. Recent reports to the United Nations Commission on Human Rights recounted these types of murders in at least 14 countries, including Britain, India, Jordan, Pakistan, Sweden and Turkey.

Advocacy groups estimate that thousands of women are killed each year worldwide in the name of family honor. Precise figures are impossible to determine, however, because so many of the murders are never reported.

In Turkey, which hopes to join the European Union, the practice of honor killings isdifficult to eradicate. Though numbers are not available, experts here say that women die regularly throughout the country, particularly in the culturally conservative villages of the southeast.

"Honor killings are a hidden crime," said Leyla Pervizat, a human-rights activist in Turkey. "Sometimes they take the form of an extra-judicial killing. Sometimes they are forced suicides. Sometimes a woman just stumbles down a well. She disappears."

Or you can simply use username "annoying" password "annoying". (Minus the quotation marks, of course.)

Wouldn't that foul the well?

They should fit right in with the self-hating white establishment in Europe. Remember the First Rule Of Multiculturalism: All non-Western Cultural Rules are Good. (and the corrolary: All Western Cultural Rules are Bad).

They might kill their own daughters and wives and mothers like an ant on the sidewalk, but I'm sure they'd have much more regard for Americans, right?

To isolate crimes of honor within the realm of male-female relations is an oversimplification of the problem, said Nebahat Akkoc, director of the Ka-Mer Women's Center in Diyarbakir.

"Honor killings are the result of decades of government neglect in this region," she said. "They are brought on by the lack of educational opportunities, by the lack of economic development, by political instability and cultural oppression."

Posh and nonsense. Honor killings are caused by primitive beliefs and practices. You can't drag people into modernity.

Why can't we just wall them off and let them live in the fifth century the way they want too?

Abortion is the hidden crime of some but not all of Christian European countries.

Want to be our wonderful humane country has killed more women than they have?

Not too hidden.

Which countries do not have honor killings?

You know, murdering "loose women" is bad, and liberals are bad... but together, they could work. That is, you know our liberal self-hating whiteys just LOVE to have affairs with "authentic" third world chauvinist freaks. And third world chauvinist freaks like to kill loose women. This could work beautifully. We flood the country with hairy, hoary Arabs, our idiot lib-twits marry them... being slutty, they soon incur the wrath of their new husbands and are offed (in various creative ways!) Then we book the husbands for murder and execute them (in the name of protecting the rights of our feminists to screw around.) It's a win-win situation!

Honor killing is Arab. So Christian Palestinians have been known to kill their daughters if they were immoral.

I never heard of the custom, however, in African Islamic countries, nor in most of Indonesia, which is the largest Muslim country.

However, with the spread of the Saudi version of Islam via their oil money funded schools, one expects the custom might spread.

this link mentions that Druze kill women (Lebanese sect):

http://pnews.org/art/1art/HONORkillings.shtml

A different link has this paragraph:

Even today, Arab Christian as well as Muslim men are often advised on their wedding night, only half in jest, to "slaughter the cat." The phrase is a reference to a tale in which a groom brutally beheads a kitten in the bedchamber before having sex with his virgin bride. If she strays, the man tells her, she will suffer the cat's fate.

Honor killings are not committed by Arab Muslims alone. Arab Christians are a small minority today in places like Egypt, Jordan, and the Palestinian territories, but they account for a proportionate share of those killings, experts say.

I did a google search on Christian honor killings and could not even get a page to come up.

This paragraph only tells me someone 'tells someone to say something on their wedding nite'. It does not say they do it.

As for the second paragraph, it states no source except "experts". And what is proportionate? One person? Two? I know no brand of Christianity that would condone these killings, furthermore, the practice of stoning women in African countries by Muslims is practiced.
