This article from the Houston Comical used inflated figures in boasting of 150,000 attendence:

Court ruling gives Pride Parade an extra spark (Houston Texas gay pride parade)

There was an "unrelated" street festival going on in the same neighborhood. The parade itself was not to begin until after 8PM (and it's just too darn hard to count people at night).

I've been to the street festival in previous years but did not want to go to it this year as I felt that it was co-opted to help boost numbers at the gay pride event.

This man at Indymedia made his own effort to co-opt the street festival:

Breaking News - October 22nd Coalition Declines Booth @ WestFest Due to a Lack of Funds

What was promised as a means to increase membership in the October 22nd Coalition to Stop Police Brutality, Repression, and the Criminalization of a Generation has now evolved into another episode of passive aggression of false promises and lies.

This morning @ City Hall - after meeting with a representative with O22, there will be no booth at the WestFest due to a lack of funds. Only the WFPO Cruiser will be there by itself, even if all of the progressive/community in H-town decide to turn their backs.

Booth #16 was reserved since February 2003, and because of being 'passed over' during the O22 National Conference and the March 15 International Day Against Police Brutality - there will be no representation at the WestFest and Gay Pride Parade.

Was there one of these in any of the parades?
