Didn't the Irish govt. just give him (oops, I mean, his foundation) a pile of money "to fight AIDS"? Interesting timing.

I believe writers get special tax status in Ireland.

Also, I am pretty sure that such a "club" lacks "diversity".

Plus I am sure he thinks he is worshipped in Ireland, althought it would be interesting to know if there are women and minorities at he golf club..

Do as the Clintons say, not as they do..

Irish Prime Minister Bertie Ahern on Monday announced that his government will donate $158.2 million over the next five years to the William J. Clinton Presidential Foundation to purchase anti-HIV drugs to treat HIV-positive people in Mozambique, the Irish Examiner reports. The grant will allow health groups in Mozambique to treat up to 500,000 HIV-positive people. The Clinton Foundation's HIV/AIDS Initiative aims to help developing nations in implementing treatment, care, and prevention programs. source

GOLFING-MAD former US President Bill Clinton sealed a megabucks deal to buy a luxury Irish apartment while playing golf in Co Down, it emerged today. Mr Clinton bought the two-bedroom apartment in the exclusive K Club in Co Kildare as an Irish holiday home for 1.2m euro.

He closed the deal on Sunday with close friend and estate agent Arthur French while enjoying a round in Newcastle's prestigious Royal County Down course, confirmed John Bosco French, son of Arthur. "He'd been over and back a bit lately and he was talking about buying a base here and last Sunday evening he decided on the K Club."

The former President's links with Ireland, north and south, are well established as he has visited on several occasions.

Mr Clinton's new apartment - Number 702 - comprises two bedrooms, one with an en-suite bathroom, a living/dining room, kitchen, and two bathrooms. [And plenty of sinks, we trust] His new neighbours in 'The Village' complex will include Michael Smurfit, Dermot Desmond, Roscommon-born property developer Sean Mulryan, JP McManus and racing tycoon John Magnier.

As part of the 1.2m euro selling price, two full K Club memberships are included. The course will host the Ryder Cup competition in 2006.

Although Mr Clinton is familiar with the K Club, having played there on a number of occasions, it is understood he bought the apartment unseen. The former President and Arthur French, whose company French Estates in Leixlip is handling the sale of the apartments, have become firm friends over the years, partly due to their mutual love of golf.

Mr Clinton has bought his apartment as an unfurnished shell, allowing him to furnish the properties to suit his own tastes. In the last two weeks, the King of Malaysia, the Yang di-Pertuan Agong, viewed an adjoining property but has yet to confirm the sale. Meanwhile, it has emerged that Mr Clinton is set to learn Irish - thanks to a Londonderry-based language school. He had expressed an interest in learning the language during a visit to the city in 2001. And in order to help him get started, the former President was last weekend presented with a self-teaching pack by representatives of An Gaelaras, which offers a wide range of Irish language courses and cultural activities from its base in Derry. The pack was handed over during Mr Clinton's visit to the Magee campus of the University of Ulster to mark John Hume's appointment to the Tip O'Neill Chair of Peace Studies. Gearoid O'hEara, strategic director of An Gaelaras, said the former US President was delighted with to receive the Tus Maith course.

"When I presented him with the course he was delighted and grateful for the gesture made," said Mr O'hEara. Belfast Telegraph

He reportedly bought a similar house or membership to an exclusive golf club in Queensland, AU, a few months ago.

He IS worshipped in Ireland. As I was told by an Irishman "There is something very Irish about him". And the Irish people did erect a statue of him at Ballybunion where he played golf a few years back. I saw that statue with my very own eyes. It seems like most people in Ireland hate Bush and love Clinton. The last time I was there (post 9/11) I had a very difficult time in some pubs when the discussion turned to politics.

Mama In Law Rodham moves too close for comfort in Chappaquidick, Clinton obviously needs more secluded, very private, love nests. Where better than Ireland, to indulge his lusts under the benign cover of golf, and remember, Clinton's golf cronies have always served as his pimps.

Further evidence that for some reason that I have yet to ever figure out, the Irish have historically been among the most marginal people on the face of the planet.

"Mr Clinton has bought his apartment as an unfurnished shell, allowing him to furnish the properties to suit his own tastes."

Aha. So the interior will be done to replicate Graceland. The epitome of a total lack of taste. Some lava-lamp dealer is about to get rich.

Perhaps he'll call on Hillary's favorite Little Rock decorator, Kaki Hockersmith, to select just the right Elvis on black velvet painting for his new love shack.
