Huge Weapons Shipment Seized At Port

PORTLAND - Federal officials announced late Wednesday the seizure of possibly the largest shipment of weapons ever found in the northwest from Terminal Six at the Port of Portland. Officials with the US Bureau of Customs and Border Protection (CBP), and extension of the Department of Homeland Security said inspectors seized more than 700 handguns, 900 magazines, and 450 shotguns from a container at the port on June 28.

The CBP said the shipment was bound for Central America, and originated in the People's Republic of China. Authorities say they learned of the shipment before it even arrived at the port. Officials said the seizure did not come as part of the federal investigation of arms shipments to Iran.

CBP officials plan to discuss what they found and how the shipment was tracked down at an afternoon press conference at the port.

Perhaps of interest. The ChiComs smuggling arms to Latin America? Naw, couldn't be.

Which Central American country?

Is it possible for there to be a "Huge Weapons Shipment" from China without the consent of the Chinese government?

Freelancers could organize their own deal and pocket the proceeds for themselves instead of PLA, Inc. getting it.

Depends on how you define "government". China has a very old and active smuggler tradition, and plenty of organized crime. So yeah, probably customs inspectors and others are bribed to look the other way. But that is not the same as policy.

Is this considered illegal, or merely a curiosity?

(There are LOTS of weapons imports from China to the US. LOTS.)

.......inspectors seized more than 700 handguns, 900 magazines, and 450 shotguns from a container at the port on June 28.

?.....this 'throw-down' catch from China is a bad 'joke', right?

Maybe, the real shipment.....700,000...900,000........450,000.........got through undetected?

THAT.....would be 'huge'.

IMO

IMO, China = communists = enemy of the US. The sooner the average Joe figures this out the sooner we get to put an end to the real puppeteers.

Won't get any argument out of me. I had enough experience and saw the intelligence first hand in Nam to know who was backing the NVA and the VC.

Huge?? What's so huge about 700 handguns, 900 magazines, and 450 shotguns. Most mid-size police departments have more firearms in inventory.

If I went to a weekend gun show that had as few as this number, I'd feel I wasted my time. Huge to Ma Brady maybe as she wants them all banned and confiscated.

There's more to this story than what's in the article. Was this a legal shipment between the Chinese and some central American country or business? The Chicoms export weapons legally all the time. If so, why were they seized...just because the ship parked in Portland on the way? I would hope that there was some illegal component to this shipment. Golly gee, handguns and shotguns. That sounds dangerous! Why, they could hit any American city from 20 yards away!
