BERKELEY, Calif. - Ward Connerly, who led the fight to drop race-based admissions at the University of California, wants the system to stop sponsoring race-themed activities such as separate ceremonies for black graduates.

Connerly, a member of UC's governing board of regents, is proposing a ban on using UC funds for extracurricular events designed for specific race, ethnic or sexual orientation groups.

Some day I hope we begin to understand there is only one race: the human race. The Apostle Paul said that God has "made from one blood, every nation of mankind to live on the face of the earth..." (Acts 17:26). We are all members of the human race - homo sapiens sapiens. The ancestry of every one of us goes back to Noah, and through him to Adam. There are not different races - there are different nation-groups, different tribes, if you will, but not different races. The most primitive indian along the Amazon River, the hunter-gatherers of Africa, the Arborigines of Australia, and the Eskimo of Alaska are not only related to each other, but to us as well. THERE IS NO DIFFERENCE.

Some say look at the skin color, or the facial characteristics. These are superficial, at best, and represent less than 1% difference from one group to another. And that came about through adaptation, and loss of DNA information.

MOre later - gotta run

There better be money for a "White Male Graduation Buffet" if anybody wants to hold one.

Wonder how these scumbags would react to that?

Did you hear him on Rush/Roger Hedgecock today? He can't afford to send his adopted son to school, and although his son can accept affirmative action-style handouts (and go to any school he chooses) if he wanted to, he chooses to do it on his own merit. Ward is not only a great man, but a great father as well.

...wants the system to stop sponsoring race-themed activities such as separate ceremonies for black graduates.

Berkeley student Anu Joshi, who works with the campus Queer Resource Center, said events such as the annual Lavender Graduation for gay, lesbian, bisexual and transgender students, are important in making students outside of the mainstream feel welcome.

Maybe the students are too young to know any better. But, evidently, it has not yet dawned on the administrators just how stupid and clueless this kind of crap makes them look.

"... the administration still does not believe these activities are cause for concern, but rather that they help further the university's commitment to diversity," said UC spokeswoman Lavonne Luquis.

I guess the segregated water fountains, segregated municipal busses, and segregated lunch counters in Birmingham, Alabama in 1966 were not reaally a cause for concern after all -- they just furthered the city's "commitment to diversity"!

"I think this just kind of proves that he can't really feel the pulse of the UC system right now," she said.

No, but he feels the pulse of the taxpayers.

PRIVATIZE THE UC SYSTEM!!!!!

Many Republicans are distancing themselves from Ward Connerly, because he is viewed as too divisive. This is most unfortunate. Ward Connerly has a stronger spine than most CA GOP leaders.

Bwahahaha!!! Now when we have a funding ban for Leftist groups on campus in the name of creating a level playing field? That would be cool.

Having worked for awhile in a higher education institution for the President of a large Community College, I found that race and homosexuality or so called "diversity" bordered on bizzare and ridiculous, not to mention unethical and immoral.

It was always extremely difficult to find qualified candidates that fit a particular race, ethnic, gender, sexual preference that the Higher education commission had deemed under represented. The President would get called on the carpet each time he did not hire from a targeted group. I can remember him saying, I would love to hire someone, but I refuse to hire someone that isn't qualified.

He hired an African teacher, the man had wonderful qualifications and spoke perfect English. He was almost 7 ft tall, and darker than any other person I had ever met. He was intellegent, honest, funny and the students loved him. The other black teachers would not even speak to him. They were very upset that someone that wasn't a descendent of a slave had secured the position. From the moment he was hired, they set out to get him fired.

Then there were problems when the black teachers felt that a hispanic teacher wasn't hispanic enough. He was only half hispanic.

There was so much conflict between the races, as to who should or shouldnt be hired that hiring based on race was not so much an issue as whether the person hired met some underground conviluted definition passed from teacher to teacher.

Then on top of that, if someone was hired based on sex, all of the races became upset.

I decided that the only way to make everyone happy is to hire a blind, lesbian, 1/2 black, 1/2 hispanic teacher. That way all categories would either be unhappy or happy.

Or ...... Hire the best qualified candidate that applied for the position.

Can someone convince Ward Connerly to get on the ballot for Governor? The recall ballot will have the vote for Governor as well as the recall question on the same ballot. You only need a few thousand dollars and a minimal number of signatures to do so.

the administration still does not believe these [racially separate] activities
are cause for concern, but rather that they help further
 the university's commitment to diversity,

So, uh, segregation is good because it promotes diversity.
Give blacks their own section of the bus, in back, and
we'll all be better off.
