Home invader shot to death (in Memphis)
Memphis Commercial-Appeal ^ | 7/12/2003 | Bill Dries

One man was shot to death and another was wounded after they forced a man inside his East Memphis home Friday night, police said.

The shooting was at 4555 Dunn near Perkins and Willow.

Insp. Richard Sojourner said the shooting came after two men confronted the resident of the Dunn home at a Union Planters ATM at Perkins and Quince. They ordered him to withdraw money, but the machine kept his ATM card.

They forced the man back into his car, Sojourner said, and went to another ATM, where the same thing happened with a second ATM card.

The two then forced him to drive them to his home to get some money, and when they went inside, the resident pulled a gun and shot both of them.

Police would not release the identities of any of the three.

The shooting marked the latest in a series of incidents in which homeowners have shot attackers who broke into their homes or forced the residents inside.

Among them:

William Ronnie Payne, 45, was shot to death when he tried to force his way into a home at 4212 Warbonnet Wednesday night.

Kevin Martrell Humphrey, 19, was killed and a second suspect was injured June 13 when they tried to force their way into a home at 2959 Lark.

David Ronald Washington, 44, identified by police as the so-called East Memphis cat burglar, was shot to death when he broke into a home at 3980 Wildwind Cove about 2:35 a.m. June 13.

A horse walks into a bar. The bartender comes up and says "Hey pal, what will it be?"

The horse orders a beer.

A few minutes later, John Kerry walks in and sits at the bar. The bartender walks up and says "Hey pal, cheer up. Why the long face?"

I'll stop if you guys will donate and get us over our fundraising goal

The guy will probably be arrested for enticing them into his home.

Visitor shot to death (Boston Version)

A victim of our unjust society was shot to death and another was wounded after they attempted to ask for money from a man inside his South Boston home Friday night, police said.

The shooting was at 455 E. 7th Street, Broadway and L Street, and Willow.

Insp. Richard Sojourner said the shooting came after two men confronted the resident of the Dunn home at a Sovereign Bank ATM at Broadway and K Street. They requested him to withdraw money, but the machine kept his ATM card.

They invited the man back into his car, Sojourner said, and went to another ATM, where the same thing happened with a second ATM card.

The two then asked him to drive them to his home to get some money, and when they went inside, the resident -- a Republican, member of the NRA, and Vietnam veteran -- pulled a gun and shot both of them.

Police would not release the identities of any of the three.

The shooting marked the latest in a series of incidents in which homeowners have shot people of homelessness who entered into their homes or asked the residents inside.

Among them:

William Ronnie Payne, 45, was shot to death when he rang the door bell at a home at 4212 Warbonnet Wednesday night.

Kevin Martrell Humphrey, 19, was killed and a second person of color was injured June 13 when they approached a home at 2959 Lark.

David Ronald Washington, 44, identified by police as a repeat guest of the city's rehabilitation facilities -- who was getting his life together after a life of being victimized by the white, patriarchal, straight, Eurocentric, oppressive dominant Western society -- was shot to death when he entered a home at 3980 Wildwind Cove about 2:35 a.m. June 13.

Another good day. There's plenty of room in hell for these scumbags. Please, let's not see anymore headlines about wounded home invaders, carjackers, rapists, etc.

Follow the golden rule:
Two in the chest, one in the head.
Justice is served when the scumbags are dead.

what is gained by the paper reporting the exact addresses for these shootings? is it an ipso facto registration of where deadly guns are residing? or perhaps they hope millions of moms will march to the addresses demanding retribution? i just find it interesting...

just my take, teeman

nice shooting, although after the atm kept the card and the cameras noticed the poor guy being escorted by th ugs, one would think security personnel would contact some authority...

" More gun control is needed."

It seems that the homeowner exercised perfect gun control.

re: disclosing the address of the shooting.

Seems a good compromise to me. The story serves as a public notice, so anyone who noticed anything about the address in question - regarding either the thugs or behavior patterns of the homeowner - would be alerted and would be able to contribute more information. But it is done without giving out the homeowner's name, thus, under the presumption of innocence, protecting his reputation.

His point was that if the homeowner had controlled his gun better (more gun control), then the second would be dead and not merely wounded.

Actually, no human eyes ever see what the survelience camera sees unless a crime is committed - in which case the video tapes are reviewed and often used as evidence. The cameras only record - they don't give a live feed to some security guard somewhere.

Clever trick with the ATMs. How do you intentionally get an ATM to keep your card?
