Medical examiner's office says total of illegal immigrant bodies found is up to 27 since January
BISBEE -- The bodies of four illegal immigrants were found this past weekend, according to Cochise County Sheriff's spokeswoman Carol Capas.
Two were discovered Saturday and two on Sunday, she said this morning.
This brings the number of dead illegal immigrants found in the county to 27 since Jan. 1, based on figures from the Cochise County Medical Examiner's Office.
Rob Daniels, a spokesman for the Tucson Sector of the U.S. Borer Patrol, said there have been 82 illegal immigrant deaths for the entire sector since the beginning of the federal fiscal year on Oct. 1. No deaths in October, November or December were recorded in Cochise County, but the 27 found in the county is almost 33 percent of the total discovered in the Tucson Sector.
Capas said a 39-year-old man was found dead around 4 p.m. Saturday near Misty Ray Road, which is east of the San Pedro River off Highway 90. She had no other details.
Around 7 p.m. Saturday another man's body was found off Gold Gulch Road, south of Bisbee, she said. Two Hispanic men approached a house seeking help. They were in such bad shape they were transported to a hospital, Capas said.
Before being taken to the hospital, they told deputies and others there was a larger group farther south of Bisbee, she said.
Sheriff's deputies, U.S. Border Patrol agents, Bisbee Police officers and Bisbee Fire Department medics began to search for the larger group.
Border Patrol agents on ATVs came upon the group after a 10-year-old boy "started a fire to draw attention," Capas said.
That is when the 26-year-old man's body was discovered, she added.
Slightly after 2 p.m. Sunday, the body of a 30-year-old woman was found near Douglas, Capas said.
About an hour later the remains of a 19-year-old man were discovered in the Bisbee area, she said.
The names of the three dead men and one dead woman are unknown. The remains were taken to the county medical examiner's office in Sierra Vista and the Mexican Consulate in Douglas was notified, Capas said.
Heat stroke and/or dehydration is a bad way to cash in your chips. Mr. Sun is not your friend this time of year, amigos.
The 39-year old man managed to make it 20 miles through some very nasty terrain with almost no shade along the way. I admire that kind of toughness.
The rest only made it about five miles from the border at most and died within otherwise easy walking distance of aid. There are undoubtedly more bodies out there right now that just haven't been found yet.
Meanwhile, three fire departments and Forestry Service slurry bombers are trying to knock out yet another wildfire along the San Pedro River. It started in an "unpopulated" area at lunch time and lightning was not a factor.
Distancewise, its the perfect spot for a group of illegals to stop for lunch after jumping the fence in the early morning and following the trail along the east side of the river. I believe this is our ninth wildfire here in the county this season and only one was not attributed to illegal aliens.
I find myself thirsting for "regime change" down south -- the sooner, the better.
