I don't know about the tape, but I'd be disinclined to believe in the objectivity of anything Susan Estrich threw her weight behind. She's a hard-core socialist, and has to be simply furious that one of her camp's most important enemies, whom they thought permanently reduced to a vicious caricature, is being rehabilitated. Remember, these are folks who maintain to this day that Alger Hiss and Harry Dexter White were innocent of all complicity with the Soviet Union.

The charge that Joe attacked innocent people is false - utterly false. The only people who
feared Joe were those who had something to hide. I have yet to hear of one so-called
innocent victim - and I was there during the so-called McCarthy era.

Brennan vocalizes what I've posted a couple time as my understanding of Coulter's
true, central challenge which must meet BOTH of the following conditions (in my words):
1. NAME ONE person who was falsely accussed by McCarthy of Communist collabroation/sympathies
AND
2. Additionally suffered substantively from that FALSE accussation.

I'd say I've now heard about 10 liberal callers to talk radio...lots of personal attacks
on Coulter (mostly on her previous writing, amazingly!)...and NOT ONE MENTION of
a single innocent victim of the McCarthy era.

The longer this continues, the more I think Coulter is dead on...and that TODAY's libs are
actually proving Coulter's accusations.

As they say in Texas, Oklahoma, (OK, below The Mason-Dixon Line):
If a man won't defend his honor, rest assured he probably doesn't have any.

(No different as to the question of whether Saddam is dead or not...each day that
passes without a CIA/NSA-verified voice recording from Saddam rallying his mob to
avenge the deaths of his two sons and a grandson...the more it's clear Saddam is dead
or so profoundly disabled that he can't even speak.)

Susan Estrich was beaten up badly at the beginning of this. She had no real documentary evidence and the others did. Then later, Estrich seemed to get a lot more reasonable and even admitted (!) that the left was wrong about Communist infiltration.

In addition to all that, I can't stand to even read an interview with her, as it brings to mind that voice! Arrrgh! It's worse than fingernails on a chalkboard. Whenever her visage appears on FNC, I change the channel.

Someone actually posted that he has seen more realistic shots of dead people in the movies.

LOL!!!....reminds me of when our neighborhood was threatened by a forest fire. Flames 60 feet high, 100 yards from a cluster of homes. People went insideto watch it on TV. More real that way I guess.

Ann Coulter..... its almost porno-graphic the way she disrobes stealth RINOs and displays them before the public as the molelike creatures they are... Now THATS talent.

What she does to the other TRAITORS is fairly easy all it takes is speaking the truth with prejudice... many have done that, howbeit way too intellectually.

Ann reduces her truth/facts/reseach/snippets to one or two sentences, something that republicans even RINOs can understand..

Good post....

Panicky lefties are on their heels -- their favorite term to shut down dissent with conservatives -- "McCarthyism" -- is (thanks to Ann Coulter) itself being exposed and ridiculed as total BS.

And as an aside, contrast any liberals' whining about McCarthy's "unwarranted and aggressive browbeating and censorship" of Communist sympathizers, with the vicious demonizing and virtual lynchings of Judge Bork, justice Thomas, and John Ashcroft during the AG's confirmation hearings for having the audacity to possess a pro-life, Christian belief system.

When will a conservative step forward to mutter those same famous words: "Senator Kennedy -- have YOU no shame??"

Has anyone made it clear that the edited tape of the Army McCarthy hearings was actually the trial of McCarthy with the actor Welch as chief prosecutor? In the real McCarthy hearings McCarthy was the chairman.

In the trial/hearing that the liberals are touting, McCarthy was not only being put on trial but most of the time was denied opportunities by the prosecutor or chairman to fully respond. Time and again McCarthy requested a Point of Order but the anti-McCarthy witch hunters violated Roberts Rules of Order in order to smear McCarthy and deny him his day in court.

Geeeeeez! You want these people to inform themselves before they open their ignorant mouths ..?? Shame!

Why on earth would these people want to read the truth for themselves? If they did - they would realize they don't have any case.

For Estrich to say McCarthy affected Hollywood and the arts is just a figment of her imagination. I'm reading Ann's book - and I can tell you the HUAC (a House group) was the group that went after the Communists in Hollywood - not McCarthy who was a SENATOR. Even Bill O'Reilly got this wrong and Ann soundly corrected him on national TV.

Good post. I like Susan Estrogen although she is full of it. A personal blind spot, I suppose.

I am struck by the lack of specific examples cited by the libs about McCarty's nastyism. I would think his antagonists would be a bit better prepared. I also think that calling Truman, Kennedy, etc traitors IS a bit over the top. Foolish or short-sighted, perhaps, but not treacherous. If only the same thing could be said about Howard Dean.

these are folks who maintain to this day that Alger Hiss and Harry Dexter White were innocent of all complicity with the Soviet Union
. . . which raises the question of the remaining Venona intercepts which haven't yet been decrypted, and which presumably would bring closure on some interesting things.

People back in the fifties and sixties would have killed for what today would be a low-end server; the number-crunch available to the Army back then would have been trivial compared to that which we could easily apply to the task now. Wonder what it would take to get NSA to shake a leg on that, and why it hasn't been done.

TY for the info. I wondered where the 'hurt Hollywood' rants kept coming from. [I really need to buy her book. But at the moment, I have two projects humming along. I think I have a thin handle on McCarthy already, which will have to do for now.] And yes, I want the opposition informed. Like you said, they might realise they are wrong, or that their points are hopeless.

Venona identified 349 people in America who were in contact with Soviet intelligence. Two hundred of those were not identified. That is why Horowitz and others misdirect and downplay Soviet spying. This was not the Rosenbergs, Alger Hiss and a spy here and there. It was a huge, orchestrated campaign to take down the United States of America. Nothing like this had ever happened in American history. Benedict Arnold was a piker compared to the Democrats who betrayed America. It is improbable to believe that Venona snared all or even a majority of the spies. In addition to those traitors, the New Left which protested Nam and brought down Nixon , was composed of the children of CPUSA members from the 30s, 40s and 50s (Carl Bernstein for instance). Add in friends, family members and assorted fellow travelers and we are talking about thousands, perhaps tens of thousands, of Americans who hated and sought to undermine their own country. No...Horowitz doesn't want to hear about this. He is willing to oppose communism today but he is not willing to revisit who the traitors were and how extensive their network was. Too many friends and relatives to protect.

What stunned me about the book is the revelation about Truman being told White (who was his treasury sec.) was a Communist - and Truman promoting him. That's totally changed my opinion about Truman.

"I also think that calling Truman, Kennedy, etc traitors IS a bit over the top."

Calling Truman, Kennedy, etc "traitors" is being civil about it....

I've got my pitchfork and torch in a convenient spot just in case.
