MADISON QUARTER and REAGAN DIME in '09 (RE: state quarters & FDR)
deep from inside my heart | Jeff B.

Posted on 08/05/2003 8:12:14 PM PDT by Xthe17th

With the state quarters set to end thier run when the Hawaii quarter is minted at the end of 2008, will that be the end of the Washington-head US quarter? What does our treasury have in store for this coin for 2009 and beyond? Well, I dunno, but I'd like to suggest replacing George's bust with that of the father of our Constitution, James Madison.

Washington will forever be on the $1 bill (which isn't counterfeited that much so not worthy of redesign) and will thus remain highly visible as our most common script. Thomas Jefferson is on the nickel and $2 bill (which I'd like to see brought back). Honest Abe is on the dissed penny and $5er, Jackson on the $20, and Grant is on the $50. Non-presidential founders Hamilton (Conventioner, Federalist co-author) and Franklin (sage of the Constitutional Convention) are on the $50 and $100 respectively. So where is the Madison, the key author of our system of government? I say, year 2009 is time for the Madison Quarter!

Likewise, Franklin Delano Roosevelt has been on the dime TOO LONG! Where Klintigula was a deviant, FDR was devious and was thus, IMHO, our worst oval office occupier (politicized the Supreme Court, instigated the bloated federal bureaocracy, confiscated private ownership of gold, wrecked our money, etc.). FDR definitely needs to come off the dime. It's due for redesign anyway and 2009 would be about the right timing. Also, since this is six years from now, "the great communicator" Ronaldus Maximus probably (albeit unfortunately) won't be with us any longer and will be due for deserved commemoration. The CVN-76 was just the start. This is the president who won the Cold War and invigorated our Conservative movement. Let's put Ronald Reagan on the dime in 2009!

Reagan Dime in '09. The Madison Quarter (with Constitution on obverse). For discussion purposes only. Lets get some momentum going for these suggestions. Remember, Kennedy was placed on the 50¢ piece immediately following his death. Is Eisenhower still on that coin or was he on the pre-SB Anthony silver dollar? Unless you go to casinos, you're unlikely to run across either one from the local cash register.

HAH! Dream on! If the monetary units are ever redesigned, the PC crowd will force money to be "more diverse". Look at US Savings Bonds and the diversity on the different denominations. When were Savings Bonds last redesigned?

Donna Brazille won't "...let the white boys win".

Put Liberty back on the coins!

Flying Eagle, Indian Head, and Liberty-Head, Standing, Seated, and Statue of.

Enough with the damn politicians, already!

Let's put Ronald Reagan on the dime in 2009!

Sounds good to me.

Followed by a bust on Mount Rushmore.

America was very fortunate to have George Washington. I don't approve of his removal from anything. FDR for Reagan? Sure! But leave Washington on the quarter.

I can just see an Al Sharpton nickel. The reverse could be Tawana Brawley daubing herself with, um, stuff.

You are more likely to see the Clinton quarter and the Carter dime. Or the MLK quarter and the Steinem dime.

They should just cut to the chase and circulate the Gramsci quarter and the Marx dime, but probably that won't happen until Hillary's second term.

Put Reagan on the 20.

While I couldn't agree more with your characterization of FDR, I think the mint should eliminate the dime and replace it with a dollar coin of roughly the same size. The dime is obsolete.

Do the dime-sized dollar coin in some kind of gold color so that it appears to be gold. A pocket full of dollar coins wouldn't be as cumbersome if they were dime sized.

A paper dollar is even less cumbersome. Plus you can write things on them.

I have a great circa 1850 article which says: Enough of Washinton...He's all over the place, every city, every park, our coins etc.

Madison should have his day and frankly, I think Jefferson is overrated.
