[history]
The campaign to recall Gray Davis began to take shape Wednesday as U.S. Sen. Dianne Feinstein announced she is out and actor Arnold Schwarzenegger and commentator Arianna Huffington said they would run. Lt. Gov. Cruz Bustamante, meanwhile, met with political advisers to try to decide whether he should abide by a Democratic pact to stand behind Gov. Gray Davis, or break free and launch a run for the top job himself.

Rarely do you hear a politician who really inspires, they cannot make a speech without starting to mention all the special interest groups they will cater to. Arnie basically did not cater to anybody at all, he made it plain that what California has now (and the rest of America as well) IS NOT WORKING. "The people are working, they are paying their taxes, they are raising their families. It is the politicians in Sacramento that are not working. They are fiddling, failing, and fumbling"

Thanks!
Of course the most recent is at the top, but it is a nice summary and is close to being up to date. Including the comment on the Courts getting their tail in gear!
It was certainly an action packed day!

I think if the courts do not put a damper on the election, Arnie is in. He seems to have alot of value-oriented appeal, which will draw the pubbie and immigrant-hispanic side.

Dianne Feinstein says emphatically that she will not run for governor in the recall election She doesn't have to. Arnold's positions on a great many issues (abortion, gun control, social spending and affirmative action to name but a few) are totally in line with Feinstein's. Her running would be redundant in the face of the RINO's stance.

Schwarzenegger's instincts are good as far as realizing what the Dems have done to the state stinks. He fires off some pretty good sound-bytes.
It will be interesting to watch him weave his course over the next 61 days.

As you mature, you will learn that part of the process is to have realistic expectations.
Sorry to disappoint you, but there is no such thing as Santa Claus.

The courts might delay the election a month but I doubt they want to deny the electorate a chance to express their views. The only real issue I see having any merit is the "punch card" ballot issue. It may merit a delay long enough for the counties to bring their new voting machines online. As for the rest I don't think they will fly since their partisan motivation is obvious.

Grow up. As a candidate for governor, Arnold hasn't yet stated his positions on the various issues you have mentioned!

"Steamroll the RINOs -- Vote for Tom McClintock!"
Please indicate percentages which total 100, that you predict the following announced serious candidates will get (if you will assume for now that the list represents the main players):
McClintock-cons.
Issa-cons.
Arnold-rep.
Bustamonte-dem.
Huffington-ind.
Comejo-green.
The electorate divides into three major categories: democrat, no party, and republican.
Democrats in California have been winning statewide contests, because they have the bigger number in the first category, and draw many of the no party as well.
Republicans have been losing statewide because they are short in numbers, and in recent years have persisted in inter-party fits of disunity.
To win this or any other statewide general election, a Republican must hold the Republican base AND garner votes from the no party-independents, as well.
Like it or not, Arnold stands a greater probability of winning voters from ALL THREE categories.
Even assuming he does draw votes from all three categories, he might fall short to Bustamonte.
I invite your response, with your predicted percentages and analysis. Show me how McClintock will win, with explanations of percentages. (Spare the rino rehash-it is unnecessary repetition.)

Grow up. As a candidate for governor, Arnold hasn't yet stated his positions on the various issues you have mentioned! He has already stated those positions in previous remarks. If anyone needs to grow up here, it's definitely you. Your naivete with respect to this RINO is the mark of a rank political amateur.

I agree that Arnold made a very powerful speech. While it's hard to know much about him, sometimes you are better off with the devil you don't know than the devil who's killing you. That is a terrible position to be in, but at least it's a position of hope.
Savage pointed out that Arnold didn't write any books. Well there are four possible reasons for that:
1. Lazyness? Not Arnold.
2. Stupidity? Not Arnold. No way. The man is sharp.
3. He wants to hide his liberal views? Perhaps....
4. He wants to hide his conservative views? Much more likely. When you consider how Hollywood treats conservatives, it fits the puzzle well, but how can we be sure?
McClintock might do well later, when he's built up better name recognition. I think he could get a lot of publicity, however, if he said, "I can't stand having a name so similar to Clinton. It makes me sick. I have to change it. My apologies to my family and ancestors. But the reek of Clinton... [etc, etc]." Then, he could pick a really cool conservative name. Oh well. That's later down the road. If I had a name like "Tom McSatantock", I'd change it.

Please indicate percentages which total 100, that you predict the following announced serious candidates will get (if you will assume for now that the list represents the main players): Sorry...unlike a lot of the RINO-supporters around here, I cannot pretend to be the relation (or reincarnation) of Nostradamus.
...but I'll say this much: anyone who thinks "name recognition" is all that's needed to win this race should sit down and have a nice heart-to-heart with Walter Mondale.
