My 89-year-old grandma impaled one with a pitchfork a couple of years ago out in her chicken coop.
This was at 3:00 in the morning... she said the chickens were raising hell & disturbing her sleep. :)
She's a pretty tough lady.

Ditto on the havahart followed by a .22 cal "pill" and a dirtnap.

Before you buy one, check with your local animal control. They may have some to loan.

Get a havahart trap - which keeps the trapped animal alove and healthy.
Then send the living possum to your local PETA headquarters -- or drop him off in their cellar.

I used a Haveahart trap for a squirrel I had in my house.I set up a video camera and got a great video out of it, later I edited the capture and used the "Nutcracker Suite" as background music.

I trapped one in my attic with this trap using chinese food as bait. I took him to Hillsboro, (an uptown location) and he liked the new location so much better than mine that he did not come back.
I called animal control but the lady who came out did not know anything and nearly fell through my ceiling. Don't call them.
Had a racoon too, he stepped into some wet tar (roof patch) and we never saw him again. (When he licked the tar off, it likely killed him.)

I agree about the Havaheart, but here's the problem.
Years back, we started seeing this cute feral albino cat around. Pretty soon, it was causing damage. So I got a trap, put some tuna in it, and caught it.
It was not in a very social mood when I got near the trap.
I drove it about ten miles away and let it loose.
A day later, we see the cat again, turns out there was more than one, actually there was about five of these albino feral cats.
After catching a few more, I set the trap near the porch, heard it slam shut about 8 in the morning. Went out, and there was a LARGE white cat in it, I think it was male, but I didn;t ask it. IT WAS PISSED AND I MEAN PISSED!. It had this low frequency growl to it that still gives me shivers, it started rolling in the trap at a fantastic speed till it's face was bloody and it's ear was torn. I finally got it in the back of the truck, hauled it a long way off, then spent about 15 minutes trying to figure out how to open the trap. When I did get it open, it took off like it was possessed.
And I think possums are even less social than cats... be careful.
