SCHWARZENEGGER CANDIDACY WOULD ''TERMINATE'' MORAL LEADERSHIP IN CALIFORNIA
Schwarzenegger is No Reagan
Hollywood, CA - Rev. Louis P. Sheldon, chairman of the Traditional Values Coalition, said today Arnold Schwarzenegger would create a "moral vacuum" in Sacramento if he became California's governor.
As Governor, Mr. Schwarzenegger would be a darker villain than any he has faced in his movies. And when it comes to the moral issues that Californians really care about - he gives us inaction not action.
He announced the formation of Californians for Moral Government (CMG) to oppose Schwarzenegger's candidacy.
It is hard to imagine a worse governor than Gray Davis but Mr. Schwarzenegger would be it. California has enough problems without adding a Governor Schwarzenegger to the mix.
Make no mistake about it, Ronald Reagan was a great actor who became a great Governor and great President. But Ronald Reagan has strong moral principles - there is no evidence that Mr. Schwarzenegger has any strong moral convictions on any public issue.
He would be wise to take the advice he offered in a recent television interview - '
when you are successful and you change, you are an idiot'.
We will begin a public campaign to encourage Mr. Schwarzenegger to stick to destroying bad guys in his movies rather than laying waste to our state from Sacramento.
His films may be amusing but his candidacy is not.

How can Arnold "terminate" the state's moral leadership when moral leadership doesn't currently exist in CA? Jeeze, get some perspective.
You want a more conservative candidate? Fine. But spare us the ludicrous, credibility-damaging hyperbole.

I fully expect Republicans to screw this election up to the point of handing it to the Democrats. This is just one example. They blew it with Simon and they are going to blow it again by not supporting Arnold.

I agree. As Rush once said "The Republicans do not know how to handle power.".

Note that the leading, baiting headline has absolutely NOTHING to back it up in the actual text of the press release.
I guess the "Traditional Values Coalition" is now part and parcel of the DNC, happily participating in the Gray Davis/California RAT Politics of Personal Destruction campaign.

They blew it in 1998 too. Lungren wasn't good enough. Didn't make any difference who won so conservatives stayed home. Well, well...turned out it did matter, didn't it?

How can Arnold "terminate" the state's moral leadership when moral leadership doesn't currently exist in CA? Jeeze, get some perspective. Agreed. It's been years since there was any sort of "moral" leadership in Kalifornia. This idiot isn't helping the GOP any, by his crazy rantings.
By the looks of it, the Kalif. GOP is about to screw up another election again, only to flush the entire state down the drain. Good luck getting it back later.

Arnold is a gift to America.
He is an inspiration, fiscally sharp (Masters in Economics), and larger than life.
His impact on the Republican movement in California will be enormous.
Rush and the Rev. are dead wrong.
Schwarzenegger is the classic immigrant who made it big.
The American Dream come true. Arnold laments its passage in California, because it was the stuff of legends.
A return to this nostalgic past is as conservative as one gets, and I will support him wholeheartedly.
I suggest all Freepers do as well - IF YOU WANT TO LIVE.

Listened to much radio commentary today on the Arnie candidacy, and as usual there was much lamenting and rending of garments on the ironclad right; hes not this, hes not that, he said this, he sleeps with a Shriver, etc. I am always mystified by people who would rather die pure than live with imperfections. Every candidate will always disappoint, somehow. Any candidate with whom you agree 100% is probably unelectable. If your bumpersticker says DONT BLAME ME, I VOTED FOR AYN RAND I'm not particularly impressed. Cause shes dead and none of that stuff is going to happen. Doesnt mean we cant keep the ideas in play, but if you dont vote because no candidate vows to privatize the sewage systems and disband the Food and Drug Administration, dont come crying to me when your marginal tax rate hits 71 percent.

Not for me.
I'm supporting McClintock.

I thought the fact that one of the leading bragging rights from California's Chamber of Commerce is that there already is a "Moral Vacumn" in California. So what harm could Arnold possibly do?

Is there much for moral leadership in California now, at least that could capture enough of the vote to attain political power? Arnold is not trying to be anything but what he is, an affable fellow with high recognition factor. At heart, nobody really believes that Arnold is the protagonist in "True Lies", or "Terminator", he is just playing a part. And the governorship would be exactly that, playing another part.

Yes, hopefully!

No, we're not doomed.
The best we can do for California and ultimately the nation (election 2004) is exactly what you're doing now.
This is the grass roots support that's needed...
The steady, relentless, real solutions that will break the
stubborn resistance of (so-called, self-righteous) 'purity' over 'pragmatism'.
