Hi Bryan.

Most impressive link you've ever sent me on this topic. The argument historically of it being homosexual rather than heterosexual never struck me as possible.

Transmission by anal sex seems much more viable as a possible explanation for a higher incidence in the homosexual community.

It will be hard to pin down exact cases by transmission category but at least this has a bit of logic behind it. I await further studies that either confirm or repudiate these findings. For now put me in the "Let's see" category.

In any case, it's nice to know that you've softened your position that AIDS is a homosexual disease. At least that's what I remember your position to be.

My position has always been that in America, AIDS is primarily a homosexual disease, and the secondary cause is intravenous drug abuse. Here, in 2003, we finally have a reputable medical association and a peer-reviewed medical journal specializing in STD and AIDS, confirming what many have suspected for a decade: that the epidemic of HIV in Africa does not arise from vaginal transmission.

Female-to-male vaginal transmission of HIV is virtually nonexistent; male-to-female vaginal transmission of HIV is extremely rare. Both usually rely upon the existence of other STDs that compromise the immune system -- and, of course, the failure to use a condom.
