FOX-Sleaze vs. FOX-News : Conservatives Must Decide!

PRESS RELEASE:     8/13/03, 4:16 PM

SUBJECT:               FOX-Sleaze vs. FOX-News : Conservatives Must Decide!

The Catholic Family Association of America (CFAA) issued a call to moral conservatives to fight the scheduled mainstreaming of pornography by Fox Broadcasting by hitting Rupert Murdoch where they have the most influence, the ad revenues of FOX-News.

In an article called The Music Man, appearing on the CFAA web site, president Timothy A. Chichester denounced the pending introduction of "Skin", a show designed to mainstream pornography under the guise of a Romeo and Juliet romance between a "good" pornographer's daughter and a "bad" LA district attorney's son.

Chichester blasted Jim Leonard, creator and executive producer of the program, who boasted that "We have a working porn director who is a technical adviser for us", for attempting to mainstream the ideas that the porn industry is a legitimate business and the walking cess-pool sludge who run it are really not just plain folk, but better than those that oppose them.

Citing Fox owner Murdoch as one who also thinks we really need a show that "glorifies and promotes the smut industry that has devastated more lives than we can ever imagine, while it undermines the very concept of moral self-control," the article goes on to observe: "Murdoch happily rakes in the cash from both sides of the cultural divide. In one hand he holds FOX-Sleaze and the other FOX-News. The first caters to the social liberals based on the proposition that the deeper the TV dumpster the bigger the bottom-feeder bucks to be hauled up. FOX-News caters to those who seek refuge from the nauseating reek of the pit. Wow, what a market straddle! What a two-headed money machine."

CFAA is asking that viewers let Murdoch know what they think of his attempts to use their minds "as his personal sewerage filtration plant" by turning off FOX-News for three days a week until Murdoch cancels "Skin".

From our article accompanying the Press Release:

FOX-News caters to those who seek refuge from the nauseating reek of the pit. Wow, what a market straddle! What a two-headed money machine.

But Murdoch has forgotten Von Clauswitz' treatise On War and the nature of vulnerability. Decent folk who constitute the bulk of FOX-News viewers will have no direct influence over FOX-Sleaze. But they do have significant influence over FOX-News.

...turn OFF the network for three full days a week until Murdoch cancels "Skin", including the two weeks following the cancellation to seal the deal.

The intent is to soak up ad revenue well beyond that which FOX-Sleaze will generate from "Skin". The viewers will survive the disconnect. They will exert their influence on Rupert Murdoch's empire of sleaze and no damage will come to their favorite conservative programs. ...If they will not deny themselves their conservative feel-good shows for a few days, they are not as tough as they think. What they should keep in mind is that while depriving FOX-News of revenue, the mega-buck celebrities will suffer nothing but the satisfying revelation that many of their viewers actually do put principle before gain. The target is Murdoch; the revenue is his.

While its nice for him to have a cable news network, he makes 20 times the money on broadcast.

Prove it.

The CFAA should start cleaning up its OWN house before wagging the finger at others.

You know what, these people are dead right. Murdoch is totally governing his empire around 'balanced'.

What Murdoch saw in the big 3 was 3 companies selling to the same market segment, the left. He came along, took the right and some of the middle, leaving 3 companies to fight for the core left.

Most conservatives don't consume the amount of TV that lefties do, demographically speaking.

Fox provides news to the righties, and mindless drivel to the left. Murdoch is a marketing genius.

This is NOT a Catholic issue, you bigoted schmuck. This elevation of the porn industry is an issue for all conservatives.

How much longer will network television even exist? With TIVO technology, etc, will there be a need for networks in 20 years?

I've had it with reality TV shows.

Me too. I never watched them to start with. Add Homo comedy and other sex comedy stuff to the list as well. Not much TV I watch anymore, I guess I'm gettin' old.

Prove it! Prove he doesn't.

I'm sure there are FReepers here who can and will weigh in on this to settle this fairly. In the meantime, I'll see if I can find the relevant numbers.

If you think more folks watch Fox TV sleaze programming than Hannity and O'Reilly, I think you are very mistaken.

FOX Network is a lot of entertainment stuff and I generally tune it out. FOX NEWS however also needs to curb it's tabloid television. The whole Kobe Bryant and Scott Peterson stuff has to go. Also it would be a good start if they got rid of Rita Cosby, she is terrible and a magnet for some of the worst tabloid garbage out there.

Nope, not going to do it. I lived too long without FOX to do ANYTHING that will endanger it or give a victory to CNN. They are two different things. Boycott FOX broadcast, but don't take it out on the good people at FOXNews.

He didn't head right with Fox the entertainment network, if anything he went left. He looked at the big three and saw that all the risk had gone out of broadcast TV, nobody was striking out for new territory, and programs were falling well within FCC guidelines for things like adult situations and language. Seeing room to grow he siezed it, started off with the Tracy Ulman Show which featured a little cartoon about an obese alcoholic father who isn't respected by his kids and regularly tries to kill one of them and never looked back (that cartoon of course later went on it's own and is still on the air, The Simpsons that is).

Married with Children
21 Jump Street
Stealing Arron Spelling (the man that perfected jiggle TV)

Fox has been risque and pushing the envelope on what you could do on broadcast TV from the start. It's a very amoral channel.

The press release you posted was from the CATHOLIC Family Association of America. I am merely pointing out that this group should go after the perverts in the Holy See, the same perverts who have been sexually abusing good CATHOLIC boys and girls for God knows how long, FIRST rather than pick on a commercial entity like FOX. If you don't like what's on TV, turn the damned thing off. You can't exactly do the same thing to a parish priest. Hypocrisy doesn't exactly look well on religious robes, whether it is at the LA diocese or at the Vatican.

20 years ago people asked the exact same question, except it was VCRs not TIVO, the question was asked again with cable. For the most part broadcast gets better ratings than non-broadcast, while they might need to alter what they do and how they do it they sure aren't going away any time soon.
