I am *so* sorry that I had to switch back to RCN almost 2 years ago. I had switched from them to Verizon in June 2001 (I'd had enough with their erratic service that rivaled third world countries and dubious billing practices), but then Verizon had no idea when they could restore service after the terrorist attacks and RCN was back up and running, so I went with them.

Two weeks ago, they randomly shut off my phone service and finally deigned to come out here the next day to correct their screw up.

I was on the phone at 8:20 this morning when the phone just went dead. When I called them, they *so generously* said that they would be here any time between then and 9 p.m. The woman also had the brass balls to try to hang the blame on the blackout -- which had ended down here nearly 3 hours earlier. She said that if I wanted anything resembling a "time window," the best they could do is Sunday. Well, my whole building is out and these pricks have yet to show up. I'm warming up my vocal chords, because I'm going to call them in about 2 hours and you just might hear me.

Yeah it was great. We all sat/stood on the sidewalk drinking beers (courtesy of the bar in my building) and shooting the bull. When the lights came on at 3:30 everyone cheered.

You should have heard the cheering on the streets when the power came back on. It was better than the World Series in 1996.

Mega bummer! And to think I was grouchy because it was 115 on Wednesday, and my air conditioning repairman decided it was too hot for him to finish up that day...leaving us rather balmy in the house until the next morning.

Mayor Doofus stood in the middle of the bridge to shake people's hands and get some face time, but only served to block foot traffic and got heckled for it, from what I understand.

That would make me grouchy too. Normally, I flip out without airconditioning.

Last night I couldn't even use a fan, but I just had to file it under "Whaddya gonna do?" At least I had running water (a lot of buildings didn't).

I also had my emergency supplies already in order months ago, thanks to my nagging mom, and I broke into it for the first time last night.
