Warren Buffett, known as the Sage of Omaha for his investment genius, was last night putting the finishing touches to his vision for a better world, created in the last two days at a secret conference held at the ancestral home of the Rothschild dynasty.
Mr Buffett was joined by an exclusive guest list of 70 at Waddesdon Manor, in Buckinghamshire, including an assortment of global financial leaders such as Jim Wolfensohn, president of the World Bank, and Jorma Ollila, chief executive of Nokia.
Paul Volker, former chairman of the US Federal Reserve Board, and Roland Berger, the American corporate strategy guru, also attended.
Mr Buffett, the second-richest man in the world after Bill Gates, also invited a few other famous names along, including Bono, the U2 singer who campaigns to reduce world debt, and action hero Arnold Schwarzenegger.
Mr Schwarzenegger, who is thought to be preparing to launch a political career as the Republican candidate for California, paid a flying visit by helicopter while those attending the conference discussed issues ranging from the Middle East conflict to the downturn in the global economy.
Mr Buffett's NetJets business, which sells shares in private jets, sponsored the conference and hopes to turn it into an annual date for political and business heavyweights, whose diaries are filling up such events.
