Latvian police have seized 28 tons of military hardware reported to be destined for Iran.
Latvian security police said Thursday they seized the $315,000 shipment at the airport in the capital, Riga.
Customs documents show the shipment was registered as farm equipment. Police say the cargo actually included spare parts for tanks, night-vision instruments and armament parts.
Latvian authorities say the shipment may have been destined for terrorists. No one has been detained in the incident.
Latvian military intelligence units are investigating the shipment.
Authorities say the equipment appears to be old Russian military hardware. Several off-shore companies were reportedly involved in the shipment, which originated in Russia.

28 tons of gear for $315,000? Well it sure as hell didn't come from Raytheon or General Dynamics.

Al-Qaeda hardware that the ayatollahs can plausibly deny or Mujahideen-e-Khalq gear?

What the hell could this be? Stones for a slingshot. I mean 56,000 pounds for $315,000 works out to only $5.62 per pound (and probably less, since these were probably metric tons). The night vision equipment must be candles or flashlights.

What's a sealed case of 7.62x39 worth sitting in a military warehouse in the former Soviet Union? Ditto for RPG launchers and grenades? Mortars and mortar rounds? Etc.?

Oh I have no doubt the price is correctly reported. A buck still goes a long way in Latvia.
