LOS ANGELES (AFP) - A top California politician opened fire on political hopeful Arnold Schwarzenegger over rampant gun violence shown in his hit movies including "Terminator."
The swinging attack by veteran Democratic Senator Dianne Feinstein on the Republican action hero who is running for governor of California came a day after Schwarzenegger unveiled his policy platform for the first time.
"Violence begets violence," said Feinstein as she appeared with embattled California Democratic Governor Gray Davis in Los Angeles to lobby for a permanent ban on military-style assault weapons.
"And ... you become a role model for someone of lesser maturity out on the street to try to imitate what you do in a movie. So I don't consider those kinds of things terribly healthy for a society," she said.
The gun-slinging star of action movies such as the "Terminator" series, "Total Recall," "Conan the Barbarian" and "True Lies" is recasting himself as a governor who will tackle the crippled economy instead of bad guys.
He is the leading candidate among 135 who are contesting the October 7 recall election aimed at toppling Davis amid criticism of his mismanagement of the world's fifth largest economy.
But Feinstein is the first of the Democratic big guns to take aim at the actor-turned-politician since he announced his surprise candidacy two weeks ago, catching the Democratic part off guard .
"I would call on Mr. Schwarzenegger to renounce these weapons, absolutely. These weapons bring no good to the United States of America," she said, challenging the moderate Republican to publicly oppose assault weapons.
"They don't belong on our streets. I hope he will say that again, again and again -- and forcefully."
Schwarzenegger has said that it is up to the US body that approves movies for particular audiences to decide whether to put an "R" rating on his movies, a rating that would bar youngsters under 17 from seeing them.
Feinstein is supporting Davis by opposing the recall vote in which Californians will first be asked whether they want to sack Davis and then say who should replace him if he is stripped of power.
A poll showed Thursday that 58 percent of Californians say they want to oust him, while Schwarzenegger emerged as the favourite candidate to replace him with a 23 percent vote share against 18 percent for Democratic lieutenant governor Cruz Bustamante.
What about Predator? That's a classic.
"Your foster parents are dead.....I must shoot you in the leg.....I'll have a shriveled back"
I don't trust her with that thing. Maybe Gray-skinned Davis is hoping she'll end his misery. But she'd rather see if Ahhhhnold can really take 30 pieces of metal in the back.
Oh.
My.
Effing.
G-d.
THIS is all they got?
I hope Arnold wins, now. And wins BIG. And terminates that shriveled old Chinaman Whore, FineSwine.
Don't forget Babs Streisand also made a boxing film with Ryan O'Neil (Main Event). Lets see you bash Babs for using her fists.
Hollyweird.
She isn't.
Unless it's a Republican.
Talk about lame...
Her (what I assumed to be an) autobiographical film, which I could only stand for ten minutes, was where she expertly portraited a foul-mouthed whore.
What is Fineswine but a typically political whore?
A politician with a "D" next to his/her name criticizing the contents of movies.....I don't think this is gonna fly to well in California, but go for it Di Fei...
These freakin' hypocrites!
Just damn.
If you want on the new list, FReepmail me. This IS a high-volume PING list...
I read how Grey Davis has signed a law which basically makes it so that Catholic Churches cannot put anti-abortion provisions in any contracts to sell any of their hospitals.
And here, DiFi tells Hollywood that they are destroying people's lives.
All we need now is for Cruz Bustamante to take on trial lawyers to somehow pander to Hispanics and we'll be all set.
I called her office several years ago and asked why she didn't try to stop Hollywood from using high capacity magazines --- since she wants citizens to be limited to 10 round magazines.
Her helper was unconcerned and said "You can still buy them " (high capacity magazines)(although citizens can only buy greater-than-10-round magazines that were manufactured before Feinstein helped make it illegal ).
If you say fiscal policy are you telling us CA. republicans can't find both a moral and fiscally reponsible candidate?
Or are we part of the Knee Pad and Log Cabin Republicans?
