Feds Issue Terror Warning For Bay Area Oil Refineries
KTVU ^

SAN FRANCISCO -- A 'single source' in Europe has told U.S. officials that there may be a terrorist attack this weekend at a waterfront oil facility in either San Francisco, New York City or Los Angeles.
While the tip has not been corroborated by another source, the FBI is taking the threat seriously and has issued a terror alert to Bay Area authorities. An additional target, the source told federal officials, may be the Boulder Dam.
The California Highway Patrol told KTVU that it had not added any additional officers to its patrols, but was keeping a close eye on the local bridges, chemical plants and oil refineries.
The Richmond Fire Department did confirm that it was stepping up its patrols of the Chevron Refinery, but a spokeswoman at the Contra Costa Fire Department -- which has the Tosco Refinery complex within its jurisdiction -- said she had not been told about the alert.

Thanks Brian, I guess I'll close my windows now and try to sleep. I'm probably one of the closest Freepers to this would-be incident. I'll just get on our boat and sail the other direction.
The feds have already done a simulated drill for a closely related scenario - no I can't tell because I'd have to kill you.

I'll be out sailing near one of the targets tomorrow. Unfortunately I have nothing more lethal than water balloons onboard.

Of course, the warnings could just be coming from upset Democrats who really, really need the economy to be slogged down.

Fortunately, the article is dated March, '03. I was planning to take my sons to Phila tomorrow to see either the Olympia/Becuna historic ship displays or old Fort Mifflin. Not a good time for an attack on the Port of PHila!

IMHO radical Islam will NOT attack any target that could alienate the corrupt Mexican government. Millions and millions of Mexican citizens would be affected. It could also scare Mexicans in Mexico and delay the corrupt Mexican governments' "citizens beyond borders" mass deportation of its unwanted citizens to the U.S. Small arms and bomb attacks against non-Mexicnas are another matter, however.
Besides any attacks between now and election 2004 would rally people to President Bush. Our enemies need Dumb-Ol'-Rats in the White House. It's much easier to have friends in the highest places. There's only so much Congressmen and Senators can do.

Not offshore, in San Francisco Bay. We defeated all of the pirates and marauders in the Bay years ago.
Several oil refineries and an off-loading wharf are located on or very near the water in San Francisco Bay.
