It's a maintenance flight. Only two on board, a pilot and co-pilot. Not yet known if it's a crash or they had to ditch in the water.

Early reports said their were at least 21 on board. What is the latest source for 2 on board? (Note, I do not have access to TV - that is why I am asking).

Flight number may be incorrect.

Unknown how many souls onboard.

This is a small twin engine commuter flight. Reports indicate it was heading to Albany, NY and reported an emergency and was attempting to return to the airport.

On FoxNews they have the split-screen with the President on one side and a rescue helicopter on the other. Personally, I'd much rather hear what GW has to say than hear some reporter blather on about how nothing is known about the plane crash yet.

It's Colgen Air, operating for US Air express. Was enroute to Albany, and the pilot declared an emergency and was trying to land at Barnstable airport. Crashed 3 miles short of the runway.

Question of the day:

Will Ted "Chappy" Kennedy call in some Naval assets to conduct a search, or is that action limited to searching for family members?

Two divers in the water at the wreckage site. They are likely at the fuselage by now.

If the news helo would just get around on the other side of the glare, we could watch this rescue (or recovery).

Now the news helo has backed way off.

Plane Carrying Two Crashes Off Cape Cod

YARMOUTH, Mass. (AP)--A plane carrying two crew members crashed Tuesday off Cape Cod, a spokeswoman for Colgan airline said.

The conditions of the two pilots was not immediately known. It was on its way from Hyannis to Albany, N.Y., said Mary Finnegan, a Colgan spokeswoman.

She said initial reports that the plane was carrying as many as 21 passengers were not accurate.

The plane is operated by Colgan Air, which is a carrier for U.S. Airways Express serving Cape Cod. It was in the middle of a ``repositioning'' flight, not a scheduled flight, Finnegan said.

The plane crashed 3 miles short of the runway at Hyannis Airport.

An aerial view of the crash site showed debris floating in the water.

``Our thoughts and prayers are that our crew members are OK,'' Finnegan said.

The Federal Aviation Administration said the pilot declared an emergency shortly after takeoff and was returning to land at Hyannis when the crash occurred about 3 miles off land. The plane was a Beechcraft 1900, the FAA said.

Rescue crews from area fire departments were on the scene. Television images from the crash site showed a small boat in the water near submerged sections of the plane, and a Coast Guard helicopter was hovering overhead.

Coast Guard Petty Officer Amy Thomas confirmed that two people on board. She described the plane as at twin engine Beechcraft with seating for 19 passengers.

This will be interesting. The Beech 1900D sim is where I worked at FSI (at ERAU's campus), and I worked with the FSI instructors who did the rides. When the layoffs occured, they went to commuters. Wonder if I knew them.
