CBS News reporter Jim Axelrod said embedding reporters with troops during the Iraq war was "a huge success."

The media and the public got an honest, firsthand, often live, account of the war and soldiers had their stories told, something Axelrod said did not happen in the first Gulf War.

What do you expect? The reporter was from CBS News.

I thought he did a good job as opposed to the bunch at the studio.

Do you mean the part about his Humvee dying?
Or the fact that he's praising our troops (which I don't think you would expect from a CBS guy)?

They were saved when an ABC News crew saw what happened, pulled up behind, and used their truck to push the crippled CBS vehicle to safety.

Perhaps the ABC News crew was actually trying to push the CBS vehicle over the edge and into the drink.   ;-)

Hard-core Leftists don't consider it a success because they could not spin it negatively -- you know, inserting stories about rape and pillage.

Mostly it made it impossible for the press of our 'allies' in Europe to spin the military engagement as a disaster, although God knows they tried.

I had a modicum of trust for the press before the war. Now I have none. In particular I see that the foreign press is so massively biased that its audiences cannot help but be manipulated by them, even in supposedly free places like Europe.

I think this was a great success- the reporters had an opportunity to get to know the troops as people, and to experience the same hardhips/dangers they did. Kind of like takinga reporter to the gun range and letting them shoot.
