A Greenville police officer has been suspended from duty after being charged with driving under the influence.
Police Chief Lon Pepper Jr. would not name the officer, but the Sunflower County Sheriff's Department identified him as Joseph Chillus.
Chillus was pulled over by the Mississippi Highway Patrol on Mississippi 448 in Sunflower County on Aug. 30. He was taken to the sheriff's department, where he failed a DUI test.
Pepper said the Greenville Police Department did not learn about the incident until Friday.
Pepper said the officer has "been placed on suspension until the final disposition of the case."

Sure do, I started my police career in Greenville in 1960 and watched him come up as a young lad. His daddy was a good man as well.

If this were the only "bad" cop we would be in "good" shape.

Like your tag line and yep, thats why we live so long here in Mississippi.

I look at it like this, there are bad cops, bad doctors, bad politicians, thats why we try so hard to weed out the bad ones, there are a lot more good police officers than bad ones.

You're right.
Ont the tag line. It seems we have a lot of MS Freepers who
can read but they can't write to well.

Know your part of the state well, I was Chief of Police in Belzoni in the early 70's and I KNOW you know where Belzoni is.

I KNOW you know where Belzoni is.
I went through Belzoni last night going to a gospel singing in Isola.

I believe I met a Chief Pepper at the state police chief's convention in the early 90's. Would this have been Jr or Sr? Whichever, he had a lot of respect of the other chiefs and was a genuinely nice person to the hotel staff where I worked.
I'm a little foggy on the details, there were so many good people there. All the details were overshadowed by the Itta Bena chief's house being torched while he was at the convention. His department ran us to death trying to find him that evening.

Belzoni? Catfish capital of the world? My ma was from Isola and we used to make the trip down to visit my grandma there every year. My uncle still lives in Isola. The neighborhood sure has changed.

There are a lot of good people in Belzoni and a few who are just bad.

OOPS!

Well, I was speaking mainly of Isola. They murdered the guy that owned the fish restaurant we used to frequent. The curfew siren still goes off every night. I still have a lot of family near Isola and my mom is living in Diamondhead. My time spent in Mississippi has been among the best times of my life.
