PAUL BOURGET: Life can never be entirely dull to an American. When he has nothing else to do he can always spend a few years trying to discover who his grandfather was.
TWAIN: Right, your Excellency. But I reckon a Frenchman's got a little standby for a dull time too; he can turn in and see if he can find out who his father was.

USS Jackson, SSBN 730 Now I should have thought to check the submarines, as some of those were named after polyticians and other people. George Washington, Lafeyette, etc. But I guess I was just thinking of carriers. It's also true, I think, that the Jackson is the only Ohio class boat not named after a state, so I never even looked there. The Jackson should probably be a destroyer or a frigate, as naming them after people is common. Carriers should be named after historical ships of the line. SSBNs after states, since they replace the battleships, SSNs after cities. Tugs after Indian Chiefs, tect.
Be nice if the Navy would stay consistent in it's ship naming conventions, wouldn't it?
Thanks for the correction!

Of course you have to wonder what the people of Rhode Island, with along sea faring tradition, think of having the boat bearing the name of their state getting changed to that of some politician, even if one friendly to the DoD.

Much too seaworthy a ship to bear that name. Like I said, if they must name something that floats after his Slickness, it should be the garbage scow. Me I'd prefer the WJC Memorial latrine, with his picture in the bowl of each urinal and crapper.

I think you're right. A decent Chinese junk is way too good for that dirtbag.
