Rush has been passed over on their 30th Anniversary again for the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame. Also, a serious noteworthy leave out: Van Halen...which were eligible for the first time ever this year. Yes and Genesis are also big notable misses from the nomination list as well.
Nominees this year are:
ZZ Top
George Harrison
Prince
The Sex Pistols
Black Sabbath
Bob Seger
The Stooges
John Mellancamp
Jackson Browne
Lynard Skynrd
The Dell's
Patti Smith
Gram Parsons
You are reading this correct....Both Rush and Van Halen with a combined 210 million albums sold worldwide have been passed over for the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame. But The Stooges and Gram Parsons get the nod.

I don't know which is more pathetic...Rolling Stone Magazine...MTV..or...The Rock and Roll Hall of Shame.

I totally agree and bump.
The Stooges over Rush and Yes?!?! I don't f'in think so.
To: My Favorite Headache
Their time will come.
I don't know who the Dells are.
Jackson Browne...not quite.
Patti Smith....a critics darling mostly.
The rest of them are not too shabby.
Doesn't Rolling Stone have a vested interest in the Hall.
Lynyrd Skynyrd would suprise me...they are viewed so un-PC these days. ZZ Top as well to a lesser degree.

I went to the RnRHOF site a few days ago to see if Rush was mentioned. They werent, and I fired off a letter voicing my displeasure. They sent me back a stupid letter about the qualifications, and that was about it. If it isnt a bunch of pop-culture promoting garbage, it probably wont get into the RnRHOF...JFK

Ludicrous - the best live band ever gets passed over - John Rutsey is laughing right now!

Jackson Browne...........was he the one that beat the crap out of Darryl Hannah in his Santa Barbara mansion?
Good pick. A true Liberal icon.

I thought they would never get around to Lynard Skynrd. Too many Confederate flags at their concerts for them to be accepted, I guess.

I think Rush and Yes' lifetime membership in the yodeling high-pitched vocal, over-produced, pretentious art rock hall of fame hinders their admission into the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame.

I will be very surprised if Skynyrd gets in, though I'll definitely be happy. They may have only had five years in the limelight, but they were a seminal band that defined the guitar-driven Southern rock sound.
Can't say I agree with a lot of the rest of the choices, though. The Sex Pistols, yeah, I can see that. Black Sabbath, yeah, if nothing else to see Ozzy stumbling around up on stage trying to get his two remaining brain cells to fire up. I'm surprised Bob Seger's on there, was he really that influential? And freaking PRINCE?

Is the basis record sales, and rock deriviation? If so Rush and Van H get the nod. If it is creativity and influence on popular music, Gram Parsons---who almost single-handedly invented "country-rock"---should have been in the HOF at the outset. Parsons created a genre of music where none existed.
Plus, he is 1) the child of rich parents and he never had to work a lick in his life, so he was able to go hang out in L.A. and later in England with the Stones....Rich kids in rock just turns the people at Rolling Stone on, if you look at the fact that most rock icons fit in this category (James Taylor, comes to mind)---iow, if they'd had to get an education and job and go to WORK like most people, we would have never heard of them; instead they used their parents' wealth to finance their jet-setting and self-campaigning to hang on long enough to make it; and 2) Parsons offed himself in a truly stupid drug overdose at age 26, and we know the rock critics love the cachet and angst associated with such hard living and hard-drug taking.

ZZ Top - OK
George Harrison - OK
Prince - OK
The Sex Pistols - can't name a single song of theirs
Black Sabbath - OK
Bob Seger - OK
The Stooges - can't name a single song of theirs
John Mellancamp - OK
Jackson Browne - OK
Lynard Skynrd - OK
The Dell's - can't name a single song of theirs
Patti Smith - can't name a single song of hers
Gram Parsons - can't name a single song of his
I can't name a single song from 5 of the 13 artists listed. I can, however, name many songs from Rush, VH, Yes, and Genesis. Maybe the bribes haven't arrived yet.
