Thank God. The Thai authorities appear to be on the ball in the war against Islamic terrorism.

Interesting. On a professional pilots rumor board I pop in on once in awhile there was someone questioning what the standard El Al angle of ascent/descent on takeoff/landing was. And the poster had what was supposedly a Saudi call sign (noticed by one of the other posters) as their handle. I just saw that this AM, now this. I wonder if they were connected.

Report: Bangkok Police thwarted al-Qaida plot on EL AL plane
Channel 2 reported Tuesday evening that Thailand's Police thwarted an al-Qaida plot to attack Israeli passengers inside Bangkok International Airport, and also down an Israeli EL AL passenger plane taking off or landing from the same airport.
Bangkok Police arrested a suspicious man three months ago as he was filming with a video camera near the EL AL counter at Bangkok International Airport.
After questioning the man, Police searched the man's home and found detailed plans that pointed to a clear intention to attack EL AL passengers on their way from the plane to the arrivals lounge in the airport and vice versa, from the departures lounge to the plane. According to the TV, the attack was meant to take place in the very near future, and the man arrested is more than likely an al-Qaida operative. Furthermore, other detailed plans were found in the house which pointed to plans to attack an El AL plane with shoulder launched anti-aircraft missiles. Since the arrest, security at the airport has been bolstered and passenger routines have been changed. Security sources quoted on Channel 2 said that Bangkok is considered "sensitive" to terrorist attacks.

What other Al Queda operations are meant to take place in the near future??? Lets hope we can foil these f*****s before they hit us here at home!!
To: Fali_G
I have an uneasy feeling that the next big terrorist attack on the U.S. will involve shoulder-launched aircraft missiles. Imagine the havoc that would be caused if planes started falling out of the sky due to these things. Let's hope that our military is doing all they can to keep these things from falling into the wrong hands (such as engineering a "self-destruct" circuit).

Already happened.
Flight 800.
Was either an SA-14-16-18 family missile, or one of our FIM-92C's that we gave to the Afghani Mujahadeen.
The Taliban got most of the stinger's we gave the mujahadeen.
Some were sold on the black market.
That's where China bought the one they reverse engineered.
