Russ Maple -- criminally investigated by the FBI
Russ Maple for Kentucky Secretary of State -- The Real Record ^

Russ Maple seeks the office of Secretary of State in Kentucky. Among the office's most important duties is being the Chief Elections Officer. In the 2000 election, we learned just how important this office can truly be in a serious situation.
One of many marks against him is his reputation for shaking down campaign contributors while on Fiscal Court in Jefferson County. Maple filed for Secretary of State more than two years before the filing deadline, collecting contributions into his Secretary of State account from those with business before the Fiscal Court.
Excerpt from an article in the Courier-Journal:
The FBI is investigating an attempt by Jefferson County Commissioner Russ Maple to have a new lease awarded for the East County Government Center. Among those seeking the lease were several of Maple's political supporters, who gave him at least $6,000 in campaign contributions while the issue was being considered.

This clearly demonstrates that Maple cannot be trusted with this very important office. Going back to Florida, we know that the integrity of someone who holds a State office such as this can affect the entire nation, and we must pay attention to races such as these.

We need someone with integrity in this office. I cannot imagine having someone as crooked as Russ Maple tabulating our votes. While a very remote possibility, something similar to what happened in Florida could have national implications, and we must have people with integrity in offices such as these -- and Russ Maple doesn't have any.

I fully concur. Keep us all posted, and we'll watch as well.
DEFINITELY a good move to avoid a Florida redux in the Bluegrass.

Yes, they did...they didn't even endorse Maple in the primary, and that's his home newspaper.

Great! Everyone in Kentucky reads it (or at least they used to).

It's such a left-wing rag anymore...but Maple is probably too corrupt, even for them, to get an endorsement.

"It's such a left-wing rag anymore..."
It's been over ten years since I've read it. Could be that I wasn't as sensitive to the left.....then. The 'Age of Clinton' hadn't occurred yet.
