Former conservative prime minister of France Alain Juppe goes on trial today in connection with a system of illicit financing for the political party of President Jacques Chirac.
The alleged fraud took place during the late 1980s and early 1990s when Mr Chirac was mayor of Paris and Juppe secretary general of his RPR party.
Investigations into Mr Chirac's role in the affair were dropped after a court ruled that he had presidential immunity while he remained in office.
Juppe faces a possible jail term of five years.
If people want on or off this list, please let me know.
Looks to me like the people of France are of secondary concern to courts in France.
Justice systems in republics start out blindfolded, with justice for all, with convictions leading to an "Off with their heads" approach -- without monarchs, presidents, dukes ... anyone ... having special privileges.
