Covering Hell Without Mentioning the Devil

If one spends five minutes to research the program series by PBS on New York, one discovers that it was completed in the summer of 2001 ... or so the directors thought. The final episode eventually came about to deal with what had happened on September 11, 2001, but it also was a part of a series that had been created about the New York existing prior to that dark event. The core of the entire series was the strength of New York City. There was a real sense of the melting-pot aspect of NY, the Center of the World, the standard for globalization, etc. This final episode itself was largely about the design, construction, and meaning of the Trade Center complex and towers. While the show clearly describes both the 1994 terrorist bombing and the 9/11 terrorist attacks, it makes only one mention of Islam that I could find in the transcript. That is at the very end, and highlights some common beliefs of all religions from which we should all be able to relate in peace. I don't see how that demonstrates bias in any form. After all, it was an act of terrorism that was unbearably evil, not the religion subscribed to by the terrorists. All in all, this program is more honest and meaningful than all of the sensational, hate-mongering news-coverage that sells well to an enraged nation. But then, PBS doesn't need to worry about ratings to make its money the way network news shows do, so it can afford to take a fair-minded approach instead of a popular one. In my opinion, what happened on September 11, 2001, is not about the evil of a specific religion ... it is a warning of what hatred and prejudice in any form can become when unchecked. That includes the kind that spurred the article above. I am far more interested in a program that focuses on the heroism of that day and the meaning of the towers that fell than in hearing yet another ignorant smear of Islam. In fact, I may skip on over to PBS.org and make a donation now...

Lets see now; could it have been the teaching of "Love thy neighbor", or was it, "Do unto others as you would have them do unto you" that they were trying to demonstrate by highjacking commercial jets loaded with innocent passengers and flying them into places of work filled by other innocent people?
Maybe it is their undying will to show the unfaliing love and compasion of their God to a lost world.
But according to their own admission, they say that they are following the teachings of Islam, and fufilling the expressed will of their God.
It is the same religious belief that is sited as the reason for the killing of Jews in Israel, and throughout the Muslim world.I suppose that you could say that all Religions teach something similar; but the facts are, they don't!

In light of these facts: I reccommend that you wake up to the cold cruel facts of the matter and reconsider your opinion about their religion, before you find yourself or someone you love to be a victim of this so called peacefull religion.

The comments on the FR 'Hell' thread are fascinating. What those defenders of PBS are doing is called spin. The Oregon Magazine piece is a response to the PBS habit of with ten foot high letters attaching, for example, the demise of the buffalo, to the evil, white, male European American, but designating the extinction of the first species of American horse as being due to "climate change and human activity," which is euphemistic spin for "global cooling and the sacred environmentalist American Indian."

They ate horses, didn't they? Yup. Every last one of them. They also ate the last wooly mammoths, and the Anasazi.

These liberal FR bacteria gladly identify the Crusades with the religion from which it emanated, but condone the elimination of Islam from any connection with the sins spawned from its membership.

I love the flow of ideas through Robinson's site, and once was a regular poster there, myself. Before I began Oregon Magazine, I was "the magnificient fishman," incorrect spelling intentional, on that rowdy electric town hall.

Yeah, he's right. Leftists always have a double standard, giving a pass to the most heinous of things, like Arab terrorists. A Hitler by any other name (Arafat) is just okey-dokey.

And in reference to the "sensational, hate-mongering news-coverage", how many of us have raised a ruckus because the media has in essence sent to the warehouse the tapes of the twin towers falling? It should be shown every single day. We should never forget our righteous anger, no matter how much it tortures and distends the bladders of the Utopians.
