Murder Accomplice Charged With Misdemeanors (Erie PA, loosely related to pizza bomber case)

Four misdemeanor charges have been filed against William Rothstein, the man who police say helped Marjorie Diehl-Armstrong move the body of a murder victim into a freezer.

Rothstein is free on Bond.

He faces charges stemming from transporting a corpse, and moving the body into a chest freezer with a pulley system. He has been specifically charged with abuse of a corpse, tampering with evidence, and two other conspiracy charges. In Pennsylvania, those charges are only misdemeanors. Each carries a maximum sentence of two years.

Rothstein’s lawyer, Gene Placidi also says his client was served with a search warrant Thursday morning. After turning himself in, Rothstein went to Saint Vincent Health Center to give hair and blood samples. Marjorie Diehl-Armstrong was also served with a similar warrant in prison last week.

Police say they will use that evidence to match samples and evidence found at Rothstein’s home on upper Peach Street, Diehl-Armstrong`s home on E. 7th Street, as well as her beach house in Harborcreek.

Meanwhile, Placidi says Rothstein recently passed a lie detector test in connection with the Brian Wells case. Wells delivered his last pizza to the transmitter site just steps away from Rothstien’s home.

A preliminary hearing date in this case is set for October 17th.

Here's an additional link to the Wells case besides just his proximity to the broadcast tower:

PIZZA BOMB CASE TAKES ERIE TWIST

Cops investigating the case of the "human bomb" pizza man have made a startling discovery - a man already implicated in one murder wrote a suicide note in which he proclaimed his innocence in the deliveryman's death.

William Rothstein stated in the note he had no role in Brian Wells' death on Aug. 28, a person involved in the investigation said.

Rothstein never did kill himself, and he is now accused of helping a woman hide her roommate's body in his freezer.

Sounds like he's been in the wrong place at the wrong time (doing the wrong thing) and is feeling remorseful (possibly suicidal) and didn't want his death to implicate him in the pizza bomber's death.
