Did anyone catch Tony Campolo's interview with John Kasich on Fox News' "Heartland" this evening? He claims that Republicans have "hijacked" evangelical Christianity, and solely on the basis of the abortion issue. During the interview, he tried to position himself as politically neutral--"Jesus is neither a Republican nor a Democrat; He would be mad at both parties," yet his website describes him as an "Evangelical Democrat." His biggest beefs with George Bush apparently relate to what he perceives as his indifference to the poor and the environment. (Bush the friend of billionaire polluters, etc.)
I missed it. Did Kasich show the clip of him leaving Ron Brown's funeral w/Slick?
The infamous Laugh-Cry video? No, unfortunately not.
Actually, it would have made a interesting thing for Kasich to bring up.
I found that most of the Christians who proclaim that "...Jesus is neither a Republican nor a Democrat; He would be mad at both parties" usually employ it as a weapon for their political leftist stands. Call my judgmental, but they are there primarily to attack Christians who are politically on the right - they never level this against the likes of Jesse Jackson or Frank Griswold. Just like how the words "Jesus said "My Kingdom is not of this world" and so patriotism is un-Christian" are used. Of course there are some Christians who say so are probably conservative (eg Randy Alcorn) but, well, Mr Alcorn aren't that conservative politically.
I'm reminded of a secular saying "Do as I say, not as I do!"
Tony Campolo and his wife have both supported homosexuality in their teachings.
They are both frauds and belong alongside Spong and the other heretics.
I've pretty much lost any respect I ever had for Campolo.
I saw that segment and was really angry at Campolo. He was wishy-washy. Clearly he's taken a hard left and that just surprises me. It was deplorable. Kasick was awesome ... said he didn't understand what he was talking about, but would continue the conversation off camera. Haha. Campolo came across as disjointed, uninteligible ... typical democart.
In the video, Campolo went on to say Christians stress grace too much over works, and stated that Ghandi was a beter Christian than most Christians. He said "Jesus never commented on homosexuality, but he had a lot to say about money!". I was frankly shocked that the teacher showed the video. We had just been studying Paul's letters, and I brought up the point that Campolo's comments were in direct opposition to Paul's.
Nothing this heretic Campolo says surprises me anymore.
