Excerpts from Nancy Pelosi's remarks on the child tax credit at the Call to Renewal prayer gathering in Washington, DC, on Tuesday, June 10, 2003: "The Bible tells us that to minister to the needs of God's creation, and that certainly includes our children, is an act of worship. To ignore those needs is to dishonor the God who made them. It is hard to tell where an act of worship ends in the Congress because we all think we are here to do the Lord's work."
"As we hearken to what the Gospel of Matthew says about ministering to the needs of the least of our brethren, know that it is an act of worship to minister to those needs." (referring to Matthew 25:40) "The Gospel of John says: 'Dear children, let us love not in word or speech, but in deed and in truth.'" (Actually, that's 1 John 3:18, not the gospel of John.) Excerpts from John Kerry's remarks at the New North Side Baptist Church in St. Louis, MO, on Sunday, March 28, 2004: "The Scriptures say, what does it profit, my brother, if someone says he has faith but does not have works?" (referring to James 2:14) He went on to say: "When we look at what is happening in America today, where are the works of compassion?" (said in reference to "our present national leadership", a.k.a. the Bush administration) [Source: Miami Herald]
Nancy Pelosi on CNN Wolf Blitzer Reports, Wednesday, November 03, 2004: BLITZER: Let's go to Capitol Hill now, get some reaction from the House Democratic leader, Nancy Pelosi of California. I'll ask you the same question, Congresswoman. What happened to the Democrats?
REP. NANCY PELOSI (D-CA), MINORITY LEADER: Well, last night was not a good night for Democrats. That's for sure. And I share Senator Dodd's view that, on some of the social issues, Democrats did not connect well enough with the American people. Certainly, Democrats are faith-filled. Certainly, we love our country and we're very patriotic. But, somehow or other, that did not come across, when 61 percent of those who are regular churchgoers voted for President Bush and when 22 percent of Americans gave its highest number to what determined their vote to issues relating to morality, more than the economy, more than terrorism.
So I believe that we have it within us. I know that many of the people who are in politics on the Democratic side do so according to the Gospel of Matthew and, indeed, the Bible. But we don't demonstrate it clearly enough. And faith is such an important part of the lives of most people in our country. They want to know that we identify with that.

My response? Actions speak louder than words. Why is it that liberals have to tell us that they are faith-filled and patriotic?
Does it occur to you that the "deeds" message is a liberal talking point; and that it is used to imply that conservatives' faith is not demonstrated by commensurate actions?
We see the deeds of the liberals; and if those deeds reflect that in which they have faith, then we worship different gods.

"We see the deeds of the liberals; and if those deeds reflect that in which they have faith, then we worship different gods."
Gaia, perhaps?
"As we hearken to what the Gospel of Matthew says about ministering to the needs of the least of our brethren, know that it is an act of worship to minister to those needs."
Before Matthew became a follower of Jesus he was a hated tax collector who cheated people in his tax collections. Figures the Dims would gravitate to Matthew, probably in his pre-Christian state.
From a website (http://tn.essortment.com/biblematthew_rbus.htm):
Matthew was a "publican" or tax collector for the Romans. Tax collectors made a good living. They were generally despised by their fellow Jews and merely tolerated by their Roman employers. Tax collectors were creative in finding ways to tax the people. Luke 3:13 states, "They overcharged [and] brought false charges of smuggling in the hope of extorting hush-money". Other ways of making money included taxes on axles, wheels, animals, roads, highways and admission to markets. Some even charged pedestrians taxes.
Yes, and themselves, and the love of money.
