A group of American Catholic bishops meeting with Jewish rabbis have slammed Mel Gibson's "The Passion of the Christ," saying the film was anti-Jewish.
In their joint report on the meeting, which brought together representatives from the National Council of Synagogues and the U.S. Conference of Catholic Bishops, Gibson's fellow Catholics claimed the movie "was in reality a modern version of the notorious medieval Passion Plays which so often over the centuries have triggered riots against the Jews of Europe."

I saw the movie.
They're wrong.
It portrays the Jewish people extremely positively.
The bishops are drinking too much vodka in their communion wine.
The semi-annual meeting of the U.S. Catholic-Jewish Consultation Committee was held at St. Mary's Seminary and University in Baltimore, Maryland, on November 3, 2004. The major topic of discussion was the challenge of mixed marriage in American life and how our communities are responding to its problems and possibilities both for the couples involved and for the raising of their children. With the mixed marriage rate rising to around 50 percent in the Jewish community and close to that in the Catholic community, the challenges have become more acute for both communities.
Not exactly the most exciting subject matter for a quickie at WND.
And by the way, enough with the buzzword 'community'. The use of buzzwords is kind of like a magic formula. "If we cross our fingers and say 'community' enough times, we will become one."
I am amazed that this charge is renewed against The Passion. That it incites anti-Semitism has been proved wrong in the 10 months since it's release (with a couple embarrassing exceptions here in Denver). Jesus and his 12 were observant Jews....Jesus pointed out to certain elements (the Pharisees) that they were not keeping the law properly. They reacted in a predictable way....silence the opposition. sheesh
A la "Monty Python's Spanish Inquisition" the only way to get public attention.
I know sparrows are plentiful, but I thought bustards were extinct?
lmao....these are the same who let the ped priests off the hook and covered up for them over the years. What should we expect.
Deacon Francis
I should think not! Several species of bustard (Genus Otis) thrive in Europe, Asia, and Africa.

It's a little late for them to be saying things against the film.
Wiat a minute. Somebody has to help me. Refresh my memory: Will someone please re-post what must have been thousands of news items reporting anti-Jewish violence caused by the film The Passion of the Christ?
Huh?
What?
NONE???
Nevermind....
catch them with their pants down
1) as I posted on the same article (different thread), WorldNetDaily has a nasty little anti-Catholic streak somewhere in their editorial department. This story is NOT new--the original stuff came out in April and was hashed over then.
2) also posted on the other thread are the names of the Bishops who are on the committee. Every ONE of them is a target of a TomasTorquemadaGentlemen'sClub probe and we expect indictments in the near future.
2) see my ping to you in "Book Review" thread. You'll have a friggin field day with the ignorami and 'music.'
You rang?
Not this s__t again!
The Passion of the Christ is an instant classic and a grassroots phenomenon and NOTHING these naysayers say about it can change that fact.
Anybody who can sit through Mel Gibson's moving, truthful, and compassionate portrayal of Lord Jesus's crucifixion (everyone's fault due to our sins; yet nobody's fault because only He could choose to endure it for us) and claim with a straight face that he found it anti-Semetic is either lying through his teeth or watched the movie with his eyes closed and his fingers in his ears like a baby.
Micheal Medved and Dennis Prager, both very devout Jews, liked the film very much. What's with these...bishops?
