This week were talking with two distinguished international guests, one of whom is the American author and Kabbalah scholar, Rabbi David Cooper, and well be hearing from him a little later in the program.
The other guest is a pioneer in the study of women and religion. Her name is Dr Carol Christ; shes originally from the US, having taught at Harvard Divinity School and Columbia University. But these days she lives in Greece, where shes Director of the Ariadne Institute for Myth and Ritual. Carol Christs first book Womanspirit Rising , was a key text in the emerging field of feminist theology in the late 1970s, and since then shes been a leading writer and teacher on ancient traditions of goddess religion.
And if you thought that feminist theology in the 21st century had lost its power to confront, then youd be sadly mistaken. Carol Christ was scheduled to give a lecture this Saturday evening in Sydney, at Santa Sabina College in Strathfield, thats run by the Dominican Sisters. But it turns out that she was too hot to handle. Early this week, the College was contacted by the Catholic Auxiliary Bishop of Sydney, Julian Porteous. Hed been asked by Cardinal George Pell to inquire into the nature of the lecture being given at Santa Sabina. A statement released by the Bishop said that following an enquiry from myself on behalf of the Archdiocese, the Dominican Sisters decided it would be inappropriate for a talking promoting Goddess worship and Pagan spiritualities
to be held in a Catholic venue. The Dominican Sisters were unavailable for comment, and Cardinal Pell is currently in Rome.

What do you want to bet that's not her real name?
just lovely how Ms Brennan slanders Catholics as "Mary worshippers" and then denigrates Our Lady by saying she has no relevance to the lives of ordinary Christian women. Both Brennan and Carol Christ sound like big-time flakes.
Does she have a niece or nephew? Is she the Auntie Christ?
I agree. Unfortunately, this garbage is spreading.
LOL!
*snort*
It's the Dominican sisters. Ms. Christ is just another loopy New Ager doing the rounds but the crazy sisters decided to give her a forum at a Catholic institution. This immediately sows the seeds of controversy as now the cardinal must step in and prohibit the planned forum. In turn, this results in the secular media jumping on the issue with all the usual cliches about censorship, "too hot to handle etc, etc".
If the Dominicans simply never invite her to begin with, the issue never arises and she ends up speaking at the local Unitarian Church or women's institute or somewhere.
The abyssmal state of some women's religious orders is beyond belief.
Apparently, she doesn't know Mary very well.
HA!!! That's a good one!
You're right on the money about how loopy some Catholic women's religious orders have become. On a more positive note, the loopy ones are moribund. Another two decades and they will be consigned to history. And the last generation of these nuns will have made a mockery of all the hard work, faith, love and dedication of their predecessors. What a legacy of junk!
I went to a high school run by Dominican nuns and the fact that Dominicans were involved with this incident doesn't surprise me at all. Ours never went so far as to promote paganism, but they were pretty leftist and unorthodox.
Malachi 1:11...:"For from the rising of the sun even unto the going down of the same my name shall be great among the Gentiles; and in every place incense shall be offered unto my name, and a pure offering: for my name shall be great among the heathen, saith the LORD of hosts."
