TOPICS: Catholic
KEYWORDS: litany; popejohnpaulii; prayer
It is traditional Catholic practice to pray litanies to the saints in heaven. Yes, I know it's early--John Paul II hasn't been officially made a saint yet--but I felt inspired to compose this litany today on the occasion of his death.
Please feel free to add to it. I plan on posting it to my website.

And add to the Litany of the Saints
Sancte Ioannes Paule Magne, ora pro nobis

Did you ever think, that maybe, just maybe, the Holy Father may need our prayers? This premature canonization will not help him if he is in purgatory. If you love him, pray for him.

I've been doing both, actually--praying for him and to him.
Truth is, we don't know if he went straight to heaven. I highly doubt he is among the damned however. If he's not among the damned, then he must be among the elect even if he needs to spend some time purifying himself.
I see no harm in praying to him, even at this early point. After all, people pray to saints before they're canonized.

I'm glad to hear that you are praying for him. If I thought he was among the damned I would not suggest prayers for him, but I would not make that assumption of anyone. We should always assume, especially so close to someone's day of death that they need prayers.
