Joyce Meyer ministry is selling posh homes
St. Louis Post-Dispatch ^ | 04/17/2005 | Carolyn Tuft

Posted on 04/26/2005 7:38:39 PM PDT by Graybeard58

The homes where two of televangelist Joyce Meyer's grown children have been living free of charge are up for sale: The price for both together - $2.55 million.

The homes are two of the five homes that Joyce Meyer Ministries bought for Meyer and her four married children and their families. The two for sale are situated on either side of the house where Joyce Meyer and her husband, Dave, live.

The Meyer family members have been living in the homes, but the ministry pays the bills - property taxes, utilities and landscaping and renovations made to family members' personal preferences.

The ministry also pays the salaries of Meyer, her husband, the four children and their four spouses, who all work for the ministry. Joyce Meyer, her husband, and their four children all serve on the board of directors that makes financial decisions for the ministry.

~snip~

The arrangement was one of the reasons a watchdog group called on the Internal Revenue Service to investigate Meyer and her family. Federal law prohibits ministry founders and their families from unreasonably benefiting from proceeds raised by a tax-exempt ministry. All compensation - salaries and perks - must be considered "reasonable."

They are not tax exempt.

People seeking true Christian fellowship will be able to see through most televangelists without even knowing stuff like this. It is interesting that her hometown newspaper published this.

The Post Dispatch has published many stories about her and her very lavish life style.

She has many defenders at F.R. too.

First noting that this is secular MSM reporting this, this does seem rather posh. However, her ministry has inspired millions, literally. It doesn't take that many thousand tape sets and books to accumulate several million $$, paid as reasonable salaries and perks over the course of a few years--she's been at this a long time. If there is balance, we will at least see some compare/contrast between her and the Dali Lama and his Rolls Royces, for example...

...and a sidebar on Jesse Jackson and Al Sharpton. This may be a biased hit piece disguised as news. Wouldn't be the first time....

The Dali Lama is not tax exempt either.

My point is that the Dali's fortune dwarfs Meiers' ... and it wasn't as PC to harass a non-Christian....the Dali had some bad press but not the bombardment he deserved.

Ho Hum...here we go again =-/

4CJ, when you sold your house was it wrong for you and your family to profit from that sale, because your family is Christian? Was it unAmerican? Did you take advantage of the buyer?

Because you sold the house the IRS investigated your claims on your tax forms. Is the implication you are a crook?

Thankfully you are not rich and to be envied =-)

I don't get the attraction myself. but if people contribute, and there is separation of church and state, at least Ms Meyer should have had housing provided, but not her four adult children and their families.

Your post was addressed to me as well.

If I sell my house and profit from it, it has nothing to do with whether I am a Christian or not. Tax status has everything to do with the instance cited concerning Joyce Meyers.

It was church property and exempt from capitol gains tax and used solely by her family members. I would have to pay taxes if I sold a house that was not my primary residence and made a profit on it.

She can fleece her flock to her hearts content and as long as they are willing to shell out I have no problem with it.The flock being willing participants, it's their business.

If she's evading taxes then it is my business because she is cheating me too. Notice, that I said "if she is" The whole arrangement should be investigated.

ROTFLM*O! We don't wear our "broke/busted/and disgusted" very well.

Joyce Meyers is from Fenton MO, and they are super people, and that's where that Ram Hemi was built Silverwoman and I looked at.[LOL went back Sun. and that baby's still there--wonder if my deal doesn't look so bad w/gas $2.17/gal =-)]

Anyway, MO is the "show-me state" and if ol' Joyce was up to no good she'd been strung up years ago!

My FRiend, the Bible, God's Word, tells us that God desires to bless His people, what Father does not desire such for His children?

The perception is that Ms. Meyer et al waste their money or are fleecing their flock, or that tax laws are being evaded. I know several small town preachers that have very nice homes, jewelry etc. Provided as gifts to the church from some wealthy Christians for that purpose. What, a Christian can't take advantage of the tax laws to ensure that Christian men and women spread the Gospel of Christ our Saviour? Should they be forced to support the NEA instead?

These same folks criticizing Meyers et al have no problem taking THEIR deductions, and don't rail against the the deductions taken by multimillionaire Senators and Hollyweird elites.

Great point! I forget Wlat's moniker, so ping him if you want.

When the Wlats bi-itch and moan about the borders, we note that with all them up here--the land down there is bargain basement. You gotta truck; I gotta truck--let's load 'em up!!

With the flooding of DU'ers here, maybe we should mount up at DU, hmmm?

Then again, we're strapped for time; whereas the Wlats make their bread harrassing conservatives.

what I do know is that Joyce Myers has the most irritating voice I've ever heard.

I work about a mile from her "estate", and it's big, but nothing really out of the ordinary for the area (Sunset Hills).
