HOLY FIRE DESCENDS ON HOLY SEPULCHER

JERUSALEM, April 30 (RIA Novosti, Olga Lipich) - The Holy Fire has descended on the Holy Sepulcher in Jerusalem. It miraculously lit, as it does every Holy Saturday, in the tomb chamber, where the Body of the Savior was put after deposition from the Cross.

Irenaeus the Patriarch of Jerusalem was alone in the chamber at the instant of the miracle. Flashes of light occasionally glowed in the Holy Sepulcher during public prayer for the Blessed Fire.

Many candles in the congregation's hands mysteriously lit of themselves the instant the Patriarch emerged from the chamber, carrying a lamp lit by the Fire.

Candles lit by the Holy Fire were passed from hand to hand all over the vast Church of the Holy Sepulcher. Russian worshippers were no exception. They will now deliver the Fire to Moscow by air for the Paschal liturgy the Patriarch of Moscow and All Russia will serve tonight at the Cathedral of Christ the Savior, Moscow's principal shrine.

Leading the Russian delegation sent for the Holy Fire are Sabbas the Bishop of Krasnogorsk, Moscow diocesan vicar, and Vladimir Yakunin, president of the Council of Trustees, Foundation of St. Andrew the First-Called, and first deputy president of Russian Railways.

Photos like this might spark an interest in the Holy Spirit by even the likes of Woody Harrelson.

This may be of interst to Shroud of Turin researchers although it is not a Shroud article. The Miracle of Holy Fire is a yearly occurance at the Church of the Holy Sepulcher where a strange light appears in the tomb, lights candles spontaneously, and in the first few moments does not burn.

Check out the links...

Wow! I wonder if the energy responsible for the 'fire' is the same energy that caused the effect on the inside of the shroud, while it was wound upon the body?

Or, at least keep MTV/jackass kids from doing things like playing 'chicken' with trains...

That's amazing!

Oh yes, every year for centuries. My best friend has actually been there to see it. He is a pious Orthodox Christian and college mathematics professor and hardly prone to prelast!

I have read these articles with interest and awe since about a year ago. Does it only happen for the Orthodox? If I were there as a Catholic (or another believer with a candle), might my candle spontaneously light?

Why does the fire not burn? Is it only when they are first lit or does it last?

What is God trying to tell us through this phenomena? I have some thoughts, but they are only that.

I don't suppose I will ever be blessed to even be there and witness that.

First thing that comes to mind is the description of the Holy Spirit as it descended upon the apostles after the ascension.

Video capture of the spontaneous appearance of the Holy Fire

Suddenly a flaming ball of Holy Light runs through the crowd

The walls are bathed in blue and white lightinings of Holy Light

The flaming ball is passing through the people who don't seem to realize it

The ball lights up the candle of the faithful man

I have all these same questions, and one more.

If (no offense) this happens every year at the 'expected' time, why have I, nor anyone I've spoken to today, have any recollection of hearing anything about this before?
