Novena Prayer to the Assumption of the Virgin Mary (No. 2)

Majestic Queen of Heaven and Mistress of the Angels, you received from God the power and command to crush the head of satan. Therefore, we humbly beg of you, send forth the legions of Heaven, that under your command they may seek out all evil spirits, engage them everywhere in battle, curb their pride, and hurl them back into the pit of hell. “Who is like unto God?”

With firm confidence we present ourselves before you, our most loving Mother, afflicted and troubled as we are, and we beg you to let us understand the love you have for us by granting this petition, if it is according to the Will of God and profitable for our salvation: (mention your request).

Good and tender Mother, you shall ever be our hope and the object of our love. Mother of God, send forth the Holy Angels to defend us and drive far from us the cruel foe.

Holy Angels and Archangels, defend and keep us.

Of the several sacred paintings of the Assumption by Juan Valdes Leal (of the Sevilla School) this one is most known. One of my professors (in antiquity, I know, I know) noted that Valdes Leal often painted the Assumption with Our Lady displaying a matronly face but the body of a child so as to represent the reality of her age but also the condition of her soul.

I've noticed that the novena (if it is done on the nine days before the feast day, not including the feast day itself), starts on the Feast of the Transfiguration, which is also First Saturday this year.

Thanks for the glorious images and the wonderful information!

I know that some on this board are members of the Militia of the Immaculata. The link above details the who, what, when, where and why. It is an organization of spiritual warriors begun by St. Maximilian Kolbe and some other seminarians in Rome at a time of great conflict before the First Great War. He and the other seminarians modeled the consecration after that of St. Louis de Montfort which is probably known to all. This was the consecration taken by our dearly departed and Great Holy Father, John Paul II--"Totus Tuus!"

St. Max, a Franciscan, at one point had literally hundreds of thousands of pamplets being printed during the time of the Nazi rise in Germany. These brave souls kept the underground Church alive and masterminded techniques to spread the Gospel message using the latest in technological techniques (which makes the internet link to his apostolate so appropriate). I took this consecration on the Feast of the Assumption (Dormition) years ago. It is not a single time thing. It is renewed daily in a prayer as short as one Hail Mary. If one investigates, you will find it is an entrustment to the Mother of God, the Immaculata, to perfect all our daily actions and thoughts and to work for the Kingdom of her Son.

I invite all to consider this as an option during this time of great strife, of war and during the incredible killing of so many harmless babes in the womb. The details are found on the website. Freepmail for further info.
