So you were married before and you want the church to recognize that you weren't married before? Am I getting this right?

THANK you! I just can't stand the hypocrisy of the Catholic Church in this area. So much good, but so many bad leftovers from the "selling indulgences" days. If I made a promise before God, I am the ultimate hypocrite for saying :Well, Uh...I didn't mean it. God knows what you meant.

Sorry for the poster's anguish - truly - but get on with life, get married in some church that isn't Catholic, and mean what you say this time.

The Church does not rule on whether one was married before or not. The judgment is made upon the validity of the marriage. Many marriage are not viewed as valid by the Catholic Church and those annulments are usually fast-tracked.

Slower processes just mean that there are complicating issues present.
