Orthodox church scandal brewing SYOSSET, N.Y., Feb. 27 (UPI) -- Leaders of the Orthodox Church in America allegedly siphoned off millions in donations to cover personal debts and pay sexual blackmail.
Church leaders meet Wednesday in Syosset, N.Y., to consider calls for a full investigation of the charges leveled by former Treasurer Deacon Eric A. Wheeler.
The Washington Post reports Wheeler, who is described as a disgruntled former employee, alleges the money came from donations by former Archer Daniels Midland Co. Chairman Dwayne Andreas and others.
Metropolitan Herman, the archbishop of New York and Washington, has ordered church officials not to discuss the allegations publicly, and Archbishop Job of Chicago has been called to account for demanding an investigation.
"My question is very simple: Are the allegations true, or are they false? And to this day I have no answer," Job told the Post.

Very sad indeed. But its good in some ways that this is getting into the press. It will force open some doors that have been closed.

Perhaps, but a lot of this would probably be better settled without the media and accusations and rumors, the sad thing is that disciveness and the guidance of the holy spirit didn't see an end to this mess far sooner.

I agree. But I don't think there will ever be any accounting without strong external pressure. Maybe the Holy Spirit having been ignored elsewhere, is now working through the Washington Post.

Dwayne Andreas...
Used to work for ADM. That he would be involved in a church scandal doesn't surprise me. His son was found guilty of price fixing (of an ADM product).

His son was found guilty of price fixing (of an ADM product). A made-up victimless "crime" to further insert the government into industry.

Congrats on the new little one.
The lysine price fixing scandal wasn't all just a victim less crime. The goal was to gain control of the market, and jack up prices working with a Japanese firm. Problem is that lysine is used in large amounts for animal feed, and would have hurt beef and pork producers.
On of my former co workers was involved in it, and said that there was more that never reached the papers. In short, Andreas was caught being stupid in a smart zone, and became the scapegoat.

The lysine price fixing scandal wasn't all just a victim less crime. The goal was to gain control of the market, and jack up prices working with a Japanese firm. Price fixing cannot work absent a government imposed monopoly. This is basic economics. Price-fixing creates an investment opportunity for other holders of capital. Once the price goes up, other producers outside the price-fix agreement will come to market with product and undercut the price-fixers, and the fixed-price will collapse in the face of a shrinking market share due to a need to make fixed costs and generate profits to meet fixed charges.
In short, Andreas was caught being stupid in a smart zone
In that his scheme would never have worked, yes he was.
