Moscow, February 4, Interfax - President of the Cuban State Council and the Council of Ministers Raul Castro met with Patriarch of Moscow and All Russia Kirill in the patriarchal chambers of the Christ the Savior Cathedral on Tuesday evening.

Castro was the first foreign leader Patriarch Kirill has met with in his new capacity.

Last October the Russian Orthodox Church has awarded Cuban leader Fidel Castro and his brother Raul for their contribution in building an Orthodox church in Havana and interreligious cooperation.

The former Chairman of the Moscow Patriarchate Department for External Church Relations Metropolitan Kirill (the present Patriarch) handed over the award to Raul Castro at the meeting of Cuban leaders with the Russian church delegation in frames of the Days of Russia in Latin America.

The diploma signed by Alexy II says that Castro was awarded with St. Daniel of Moscow while Fidel Castro was awarded with Glory and Honor order.

I have to admit that I don't quite get these guys. They say for years and years that they cannot have a meeting with the Bishop of Rome, but they will meet with an atheist communist dictator who is currently oppressing a Catholic nation? Not only that but he gets an award? That strikes me as really peculiar.

If you take Joe’s postings at face value, you will get confused due to their consistent detachment from reality.
