Worship, Bible Study Leaders for ELCA Churchwide Assembly Named 09-147-CD*

CHICAGO (ELCA) -- Preachers, presiding ministers and Bible study leaders chosen for the Evangelical Lutheran Church in America's (ECLA) Churchwide Assembly in Minneapolis this August come from diverse backgrounds.

The preachers, presiders and Bible study leaders were chosen by the Rev. Mark S. Hanson, ELCA presiding bishop. The Rev. Jennifer P. Ollikainen, associate for worship resources, said the goal with this group was to have "broad representation" of the church body.

The presiding and preaching ministers include four pastors who are bilingual, a first-year pastor, a university chaplain and the president of the United Methodist Council of Bishops. The leaders at the assembly serve an important role, Ollikainen said.

"Word and Sacrament are at the center of the church," she said. "Those who are ministers have a central role in proclaiming the gospel of Jesus Christ and administering the means of grace for the sake of the work of the assembly."

Prayers for the assembly, normally written by one person, were written by a group of pastors who have been serving for 10 years or less. The change was made so that more voices could be heard at the churchwide assembly, she said.

The worship leaders met with Hanson this spring to talk about the meaning of the assembly. This was the first time that ministers assisting in worship for an assembly met to study as a preaching community before the assembly, Ollikainen said.

"Diversity" should not be quota-driven within the Body of Christ, described by the holy Apostle as being containing "neither Jew nor Greek...neither slave nor free...male nor female" (Galatians 3:28)

So I indict myself by noting, with dismay and disgust that of the seven presiders, only two are male and both of them are ++Mark Hanson; of the seven preachers, only three are male and one of them is ++Mark Hanson.

And, as one whose Lutheran pedigree is exclusively German and Swiss German, I note with utmost dismay that this ethnicity has been completely excluded from the presider and preacher line up.

Increasingly I am feeling toward the ELCA as the late great Ronald Reagan felt about the Democratic Party: "I didn't leave the party. The party left me."

As the late sportscaster Jack Brickhouse used to say, “They're all here for this one!” In all seriousness, it's difficult to imagine a more self-concsious effort than this.

From the article: Aug. 18: The Rev. Natacha D. Kemp, Good Shepherd Lutheran Church, Wichita, Kan.

Question: Would this Reverend have been picked had not Tiller, an ELCA lay leader, been killed in Wichita? [Tiller was part of Resurrection Lutheran (ELCA) -- not Good Shepherd Lutheran]...but still, is this a way of ELCA leadership saying, "We want to rally behind late-term abortionists who are leaders within our churches?"

Increasingly I am feeling toward the ELCA as the late great Ronald Reagan felt about the Democratic Party: "I didn't leave the party. The party left me."

Well, while the ELCA grassroots has some great people in it, still...
a % of their offering plate $ --> health insurance for churchworkers --> abortions in health insurance plan for churchworkers.

[This is also true of the Presbyterian USA church -- to be distinguished from the conservative PCA church]

What are your thoughts on female clergy?

Sickening, secular scum. How can anyone who is searching for a true walk in the Word stay associated with this collection of leftist scum. You are feeding the beast by remaining.
