Why Mormons are not Christians?

" Historically, only until recently have Mormons wanted to be called Christians, preferring not to be included with Christian denominations which Joseph Smith said were, "all wrong...all there creeds were an abomination in his sight, and that those professors (Christians) were all corrupt." (Pearl of Great Price, Joseph Smith, 2:18-19) In the past Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints (the Mormons) have preferred to be called "saints." However, in the recent years the LDS church has spend millions in an intense public relations campaign aimed at moving their church into the mainstream of Christianity.

(slice)

First: Mormons do not follow or believe in the historic Jesus Christ of the Bible, but rather a different Jesus. This is why most biblical Christians emphatically insist that Mormons are not Christians. Let me explain..............

The god of the Mormons is not the God of the Bible.... "

This is just the start of a good overview of mormonism and why it is not, nor will ever be, considered "Christian"........

Surely God will decide. Judge not lest Ye be judged.

......but God has already decided. God told us way back - 2000 years ago to "beware of false prophets".

I'm not judging a thing, just supporting folks to avoid a cult by believing in false prophets, as God intended.

Would you say the same if the statement was “Why Buddhist are not Christians?”

God already decided, hence the Bible which clearly defines such things.

Mormons are fond of claiming they are “Christians” because the name of their church contains the name of Jesus Christ. Using that same logic, any organization that uses the name of Jesus Christ is “Christian.”

This would include “The Church of Christ, Scientist,” which clearly does not teach Christianity, but rather, issues a blend of gnostic, esoteric dogma with a melange of positive thinking and which encourages its members to avoid doctors and hospitals.

It would also include Christadelphians who deny the deity of their namesake.

It would include any organization that uses the name of Jesus Christ, while denying the tenets of Christianity.

Sorry Mr., Mrs., Ms., and Miss Mormon. You do not get to dictate to Christian churches that they call you “Christian” while at the same time, you deny the central beliefs of Christianity.

Church of “Jesus Christ” of the latter day saints. They claim they are Christian; you claim otherwise. Surely this is why hell exists. They may go there for being “false prophets”; you may go for ignoring a direct order from Christ himself.

I can not judge.

God tells repeatedly to neither add nor delete from His Word. So what’s with Joseph Smith and his “Book of Mormon”?

“ Ye shall not add unto the word which I command you. Neither shall ye diminish ought from it, that ye may keep the commandments of the Lord your God which I command you” (Deut 4:2).

“What things so ever I command you observe to do it; thou shall not add thereto, nor diminish from it: (Deut. 12:32).

“Every word from God is pure; He is a shield unto them that put their trust in Him. Add thou not unto His Word, lest he reprove thee, and thou be found a liar” (Prov. 30:5-6).

“For I testify unto every man that heareth the words of the prophecy of this Book, if any man shall add unto these things, God shall add unto him the plagues that are written in this book. And if any men shall take away from the words of the book of this prophecy, God shall take away his part out of the book of life, and out of the Holy City, and from the things which are written in this book” (Rev. 22:18-19).

“My covenant I will not break, Nor alter the word that has gone out of My lips” (Ps. 89:34)

“The grass withers, the flower fades, But the word of our God stands forever” (Is.40:8).

I have Mormon friends. Your posted article and comments persuade me to like them more. Thank you.

Perhaps you have an article or two about other creeds as well. Maybe you can enlighten us with a post about the wayward Church of Christ, backsliding Jews, hateful Mennonites, sinful Taoist, churlish Confucians, or the double crossing Adventists.

And another thing. I read in the USA Today piece a few weeks ago that Glenn Beck decided to join LDS because he and his family just “felt right” being in the church!

Even though I know what the Bible says about adding or deleting from God’s Word, I thought Beck might have contrived SOME type of rationale for being in that church, based on its teachings or philosophy. But no! He and his famiy just like the feeling of being there!

Yikes.

RLDS IIRC still look to smith as their founder. However they take a sharp break from many of his later doctrince such as polygamy (they even refuse to believe he practiced it IIRC), reject the 'book of abraham' as spurious and accept smith 'translation' of the KJV as completed (but hold to the copywrite - much to the discontent of lds). Probably a lot more in there that I missed. but then again, there are over a hundred splinter Lds groups.

Surely God will decide. Judge not lest Ye be judged.

And yet we are commanded to rebuke sin and try the spirits of men to know who they are of.

Be careful lest you commit a sin of ommission because of your perception of what that bible verse means.

If read in context of the rest of the bible, which we should all do, it does not mean what you think it means.

Do you object to informing people regarding the false doctrines of mormonism?
