Pray For The Peace of Jerusalem~A (Not So) Minor Prophet
"The Prophet Nahum" by the Artist Tissot.
Nahum
1. The burden of Nineveh.
The book of the vision of Nahum the Elkoshite.
2. God is jealous, and the LORD revengeth;
the LORD revengeth, and is furious; the LORD will take vengeance on his adversaries,
and he reserveth wrath for his enemies.
3. The LORD is slow to anger, and great in power,
and will not at all acquit the wicked:
the LORD hath his way in the whirlwind and in the storm,
and the clouds are the dust of his feet.
4. He rebuketh the sea, and maketh it dry, and drieth up all the rivers:
Bashan languisheth, and Carmel, and the flower of Lebanon languisheth.
5. The mountains quake at him, and the hills melt,
and the earth is burned at his presence,
yea, the world, and all that dwell therein.
6. Who can stand before his indignation?
and who can abide in the fierceness of his anger?
his fury is poured out like fire, and the rocks are thrown down by him.
7. The LORD is good, a strong hold in the day of trouble;
and he knoweth them that trust in him.
8. But with an overrunning flood he will make an utter end of the place thereof,
and darkness shall pursue his enemies.
9. What do ye imagine against the LORD?
he will make an utter end:
affliction shall not rise up the second time.
10. For while they be folden together as thorns,
and while they are drunken as drunkards,
they shall be devoured as stubble fully dry.
11. There is one come out of thee,
that imagineth evil against the LORD, a wicked counsellor.
12 Thus saith the LORD;
Though they be quiet, and likewise many,
yet thus shall they be cut down,
when he shall pass through.
Though I have afflicted thee,
I will afflict thee no more.
13. For now will I break his yoke from off thee,
and will burst thy bonds in sunder.
14. And the LORD hath given a commandment concerning thee,
that no more of thy name be sown:
out of the house of thy gods will I cut off the graven image and the molten image:
I will make thy grave;
for thou art vile.
15. Behold upon the mountains the feet of him that bringeth good tidings,
that publisheth peace! O Judah,
keep thy solemn feasts,
perform thy vows:
for the wicked shall no more pass through thee;
he is utterly cut off.

Tomb of the Prophet Nahum, in Basra, Iraq.
There are no Jews
left in the city which used to house a sizable
Jewish community of tens of thousands before
the creation of Israel in 1948.
They were the finest goldsmiths and the most adventurous
traders of Basra,
known as the Venice of the Middle East.
The lived in one of the citys smartest (English use means nicest)
quarters with spacious villas adorned with palm trees and oranges.

Oh LORD, Our God,
How Excellent is Your name Over All The Earth!
We Come into Your Presence With Praise and Thanksgiving.
For You Alone Are Worthy,
You Alone Are Are LORD,
You Alone Are The Most High,
You Alone Are The One true God of Abraham!
Praise the Lord!
How good it is to sing praises to You;
for You Are Gracious, and a song of praise is fitting.
The Lord builds up Jerusalem;
he gathers the outcasts of Israel.
You heal the broken-hearted,
and bind up their wounds.
You determine the number of the stars;
You give to all of them their names.
Great are You, Lord, and abundant in power;
Your understanding is beyond measure.
2. God is jealous, and the LORD revengeth;
the LORD revengeth, and is furious; the LORD will take vengeance on his adversaries,
and he reserveth wrath for his enemies.
3. The LORD is slow to anger, and great in power,
and will not at all acquit the wicked:
the LORD hath his way in the whirlwind and in the storm,
and the clouds are the dust of his feet.
How Long, Oh Lord? Will You Remain Silent Forever?
We Pray For the Peace of Jerusalem,
According to the Promise in Your Word.
Thank You for Making Manifest Your Holy Covenant With Israel,
By Bringing The Dispersed People Back To Your Land of Promise!
Thank You For Your 5000 Year Old Assurances of Victory and Peace For Your People!
But Now they Are Hemmed in on Every Side,
And Are Shot at, Bombed, and Slandered by the Whole World!
Oh LORD, Have they not read what happens to those who oppress Your People?
Who, therefore, can stand before Your indignation?
7. The LORD is good, a strong hold in the day of trouble;
and he knoweth them that trust in him.
Thank You For Your Jewish People,
Who, in spite of Dispersion, Persecutions,
Expulsions, and Torment,
have Blessed The World Time and Again,
With Their Literature, Their Music,
Their Science, Their Art,
The Holy Scriptures,
And The Messiah,
Blessed is His Name!
9. What do ye imagine against the LORD?
he will make an utter end:
affliction shall not rise up the second time.
Those who imagine evil against Your People shall NOT stand, Oh LORD! Those who imagine a SECOND HOLOCAUST, to them WE SAY, "NEVER AGAIN!!!".
13. For now will I break his yoke from off thee,
and will burst thy bonds in sunder.
14. And the LORD hath given a commandment concerning thee,
that no more of thy name be sown:
out of the house of thy gods will I cut off the graven image and the molten image:
I will make thy grave;
for thou art vile.
15. Behold upon the mountains the feet of him that bringeth good tidings,
that publisheth peace! O Judah,
keep thy solemn feasts,
perform thy vows:
for the wicked shall no more pass through thee;
he is utterly cut off.

We have Completed the “Hallel” or “Praise Section” of The Psalms, and Today’s Text is from the “Minor” Prophet Nahum. When you read what he has to say, you will see he is not so “Minor” after all.
May the Biblical Scholars meant “Minor” in the Musical Sense, as in “Dark, Scary, an Evocative”.
As a Musician, I can relate to that.

We have Completed the Hallel or Praise Section of The Psalms, The apostles sang them after the Passover seder. Matthew 26:30 After singing a hymn,
they went out to the Mount of Olives. Mark 14:26 After singing a hymn,
they went out to the Mount of Olives.

EXACTLY, My FRiend! LOL!
That is why I put “Minor” in Quotes.
I think that the term is used because the Books of the “Minor” Prophets are not as LONG as Isaiah, Ezekiel, Jeremiah, or Daniel.
However, there is SO MUCH packed into those Little Books, that there is HARDLY ANYTHING “Minor” about them, except in the Musical Sense, as i said.
Shalom!
