Priest Drowns Baby During Baptism

Police in Romania are investigating the death of a baby after they say he drowned at the hands of a priest during a ceremonial baptism.

Witnesses claim Father Valentin drowned a six-week old boy when he did not cover the baby's mouth as he was dipped into the water three times.

The boy's relatives say the child swallowed water and was crying during the ceremony Friday as they looked on in horror.

His father Dumitru Gaidau tells The Sun,

"We all saw it, the priest didn't put his hand over the baby's mouth to stop water going in as he should have done and as they do at every other baptism."

The baby's godmother Aliona Vacarciuc adds,

"We couldn't believe it that he just put his hand over his belly and over the head and submerged him three times in the water."

Father Valentin is being investigated for manslaughter. If convicted he faces three years in jail.

WHO just sits there, watching it happen 3 times, knows it isn’t right, and yet sits there anyway?

A horrible, isolated incident. But the church must be Orthodox, as Romania is primarily Orthodox, and we Catholics pour water over heads, rather than dunking.

I guess a shock and disbelief factor kicked in. Terrible tragedy.

At least the baby was ‘saved’, right?

I have friends from Moldova who are Russian Orthodox. The baby is definitely submerged (entire body) and it is usually done in the nude. Sounds like a huge mistake by not closing off the mouth and nose.

Boris Yeltsin nearly drowned at his baptism in 1931 when the priest, who was drunk, accidentally dropped him into the baptismal font.

Strange picture of burial. I never saw anyone buried by having dirt put on their head.

And then, I never saw anyone buried three times, either (Orthodox).

” . . . . and it is usually done in the nude.”

Is that the priest or the baby?

"I must be going french?"

It looks like it. Go ahead and throw out all your soap and deodorant.

So, infant baptism was/is a cynical con game by religious grifters to squeeze coins from impoverished but anxious parents?

Acts 2:38 (King James Version)
38 Then Peter said unto them, Repent, and be baptized every one of you in the name of Jesus Christ for the remission of sins, and ye shall receive the gift of the Holy Ghost.
